Luffy has flexed inhuman strength that stretches far beyond the Gum Gum Fruit through the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, though to truly end Imu's reign, he must become stronger. One Piece Chapters 1179 and 1182 suggest that Luffy can still achieve Gear 6.

One Piece fans have beheld the power of each Gear since the early 2000s, after Gear 2 debuted in a fight taking place in the Enies Lobby arc. It's greatly unlikely that Oda would surpass the idea of bringing Gear 6 to life after implying Luffy's powers and abilities for so long, yet nothing is truly promised by One Piece until it arrives on the pages of the manga.
