Sony's next animated Spider-Man will be slinging its web into theaters sooner than expected. Two years after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse debuted, the third installment in Sony’s Spider-Verse series has finally confirmed a release date.
Sony announced Wednesday that Beyond the Spider-Verse will head to theaters over Father’s Day weekend 2027, specifically on June 18, 2027, per Deadline. That means Beyond the Spider-Verse will be going up against Disney and Pixar’s Gatto. It was previously announced that Beyond the Spider-Verse would release a week after Gatto, but things have since changed.
The Father’s Day holiday is typically a good time for animated movies, and in the past has been occupied by Pixar films. However, Pixar’s original titles have not been bringing in the box office dollars that they did before the pandemic. It’s last original, Elio, earned just $73 million in the U.S. and $154 million globally with a lackluster $20.8 million opening weekend. Going up against Beyond the Spider-Verse and Gatto is an untitled New Line film.
Beyond the Spider-Verse and Gatto will open a week following the live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2 from Universal, providing for a family-friendly summer at the movies.
News that Beyond the Spider-Verse is being released a week ahead of what had previously been announced is good news for the franchise that has been plagued by delays. Back in April 2025, Sony announced that the movie would be headed into theaters on June 4, 2027.
The Movie's Team Talks Delays

At that time, the movie’s directors, Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, and writer Phil Lord, released a statement, which said that they “know how important this franchise is to so many people around us. We just could not run it back.” They added, "So, we decided we needed to take the time to make sure we got it just right. By July 2025, the release date was updated to June 27, 2027, before the announcement that the film would be swinging into theaters on June 18, 2027.
Beyond the Spider-Verse is the third feature in Sony’s animated Spider-Verse trilogy and will follow the events of 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. That film saw Miles Morales of Earth-1610 and Gwen Stacy of Earth-65 team up once again for another Multiversal adventure. The first film in the trilogy, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which was released in 2018, won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The third installment will see the return of original voice actors Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, reprising their roles as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, respectively. Additionally, Jason Schwartzman and Karan Soni will also be back as The Spot and Pavitr Prabhakar (AKA, Spider-Man India).
The first two Spider-Verse films were also box office hits, and together grossed more than $1 billion globally. Into the Spider-Verse boasts a nearly-perfect 97% Rotten Tomatoes critic score with a 93% audience score. The second installment is also “certified fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% critic score as well as a 95% audience score.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on June 18, 2027.
