Spider-Man: Brand New Day Taps an Action-Movie Legend To Improve Its Fight Scenes

As Spider-Man: Brand New Day ramps up production, the anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster calls on a beloved action movie icon to help legitimize its fight scenes. The Spider-Man sequel taps the legendary Jackie Chan, who reveals he recently visited the film's set.

Speaking with Hong Kong outlet HK01, Chan confirmed his stunt team is collaborating with the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast and crew to assist with their fight scenes. According to the Rush Hour franchise star, he recently watched Brand New Day's rehearsals, with his presence on set making everyone immediately take notice. “I went to London for meetings and to visit the team," Chan said. "My stunt team is working on Spider-Man—they’re serving as action directors. I went to watch their rehearsals. When the director saw me, he immediately got nervous and started trembling, until he realized that the whole team was actually my people!”

With his six decades of experience in action films, Chan is as good a choice as there is to work with when it comes to fight scenes. Along with the Rush Hour franchise, which is developing another sequel, Chan recently appeared in Karate Kid: Legends, which earned mixed reviews but has exploded on streaming after its underwhelming box-office run. American movie lovers also know Chan for his work on animated projects like the Kung Fu Panda film series and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

This isn't the first time Chan's stunt team has worked on a Marvel movie, having collaborated on the critically acclaimed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Though Chan has never appeared in a Marvel movie, speculation about a potential MCU debut lingers, aided by a reported meeting earlier this year between him and Shang-Chi lead actor Simu Liu.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day began filming in Glasgow on Aug. 3 under the working title, Blue Oasis. The film is directed by Shang-Chi helmer Daniel Destin Cretton, with bits and pieces of production hitting the public, including the comics-accurate costume sported by Spider-Man actor Tom Holland.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the fourth installment of the MCU's Spider-Man film series, following the critically and commercially successful Home trilogy. Brand New Day welcomes back Holland's Peter Parker on the back of No Way Home, where a spell cast by Doctor Strange led to the world forgetting Peter is Spider-Man, with the wall-crawling hero now focused on fighting street-level crime. Plot details about the upcoming sequel are being withheld.

The upcoming Spider-Man sequel sees Holland return alongside real-life fiancée Zendaya, who reprises her role as Michelle Jones-Watson aka MJ. Jon Bernthal also appears as Frank Castle/Punisher following his MCU debut in Daredevil: Born Again, while Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner/Hulk. Meanwhile, Stranger Things actor Sadie Sink was cast in an undisclosed role alongside The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning's Tramell Tillman.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters on Jul. 31, 2026.
