The following contains major spoilers for Spider-Man Reign 2 #5, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
The world of Spider-Man Reign has just been given a glimmer of long-overdue hope.
Spider-Man Reign 2 #5 opens to the sight of Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and the young Kitty-Kat standing amidst a sea of New Yorkers all eagerly awaiting their ascension as a part of Wilson Fisk's ominous Upload. Unsurprisingly, this is far from the bright and shining future Fisk had promised the citizens of New York City, although there is hope waiting just over the horizon. Or rather, just beyond the WEB system that has enveloped the city for so many years, for as soon as it falls, both the sunlight and Avengers come pouring through to help usher their old friend into a brilliant new era.

Kaare Andrews' original Spider-Man Reign kicked off in 2006 and introduced readers to a horrifying vision of the Marvel Universe. In this future timeline, New York City was lorded over by the malevolent Mayor Waters and his paramilitary police force known as the Reign. While the Reign kept the streets and citizens in check, Waters' WEB system kept anyone and everyone from leaving or entering the city whatsoever. When an elderly Peter Parker chose to stand against him, Waters unleashed Eddie Brock, aka Venom, as well as the rest of the Sinister Six upon the Wall-Crawler.
Although Spider-Man was successful in bringing about an end to Waters' regime, he could not stop another villainous force from filling the vacuum left in the wake of the former mayor's downfall. Specifically, it was Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, who stepped up to take over, leading to an even more grim era in this world's history. Together with the likes of Miles Morales, the Kingpin set in motion the events that would ultimately come to fruition as the Upload, a means of purportedly transferring peoples' consciousnesses to a digital wonderland that was only ever a myth.

Spider-Man
Since his first appearance in 1962, Spider-Man has almost always been Marvel Comics' most popular character. Known for his sense of humor and bad luck as well as his selflessness and super-strength, Spider-Man has helmed countless titles over the years, Spider-Man's most prominent comics include The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Peter Parker was the original Spider-Man but the Spider-Verse has become an important part of the character's lore in recent years. Multiversal and future Spider-Men include Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Miguel O'Hara and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham. This provided the premise for the popular Spider-Verse film trilogy, which makes Miles its primary hero.
Spider-Man is also the basis of several live-action film franchises and numerous animated television series. He is one of the most recognizable characters in the world. While he's changed a lot over the decades, Steve Ditko and Stan Lee gave the world an unforgettable hero when they created Spider-Man.
