Spider-Noir Star Reveals the Show’s Unexpected Connection to an Oscar-Winning Horror Film With a 93% RT Score

Spider-Noir is filled with amazing performances, with a pitch-perfect turn from Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir/Ben Reilly at the center. But one particular scene-stealer gives the superhero show a surprising tie to 2025's biggest horror hit — and one viewers may have easily missed.

CBR's Sean O'Connell recently spoke to Spider-Noir stars Karen Rodriguez and Lamorne Morris. The two discussed working with child actor Cary Christopher, whose specific role in the series was undisclosed before the show's May 25 premiere on MGM+.

In Spider-Noir, Christopher's character shares scenes with both Janet and Reilly. When asked about working with Christopher, Rodriguez called it a thrill, praising the young star as "amazing" and "such a little scene stealer."

Rodriguez also joked about watching the acclaimed horror hit Weapons and suddenly realizing her Spider-Noir costar was in it.

He was in Weapons and he was so transforming. I watched him with his little eyelashes, and I was like, 'Gosh, that kid has beautiful eyelashes. Why do I know…? Cary! That's Cary!' He's amazingly talented.

Rodriguez touched on the "sweet" relationship between Ben Reilly and Christopher's character and what she hopes fans will get out of it.

I was curious about that relationship, because it's very sweet, and I do think it shows how these characters care about their community. I think there's a lot of authenticity in that relationship, as well. I do hope it comes across.

Prime Video's Spider-Noir is Exactly the Superhero Series Fans Didn't Know They Needed

Developed by Oren Uziel, who serves as showrunner alongside Steve Lightfoot, Spider-Noir brings audiences to a whole new version of the Marvel Universe, one in which Cage's Ben Reilly is still reeling from the life he left behind as New York City's one and only true superhero. Alongside Cage, Spider-Noir stars Rodriguez as Janet, Reilly's assistant and fellow investigator; Morris as the Spider-Noir universe's own Robbie Robertson; and Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy.

Spider-Noir also features a whole host of classic Spider-Man villains, all of whom have been translated to fit the series' 1930s aesthetic. Among these are Abraham Popoola's Lonnie Lincoln, aka Tombstone, Brendan Gleeson as Silvermane, and Jack Huston as Flint Marko, better known as Sandman. Among Spider-Noir's featured and recurring players are Cameron Britton, Amanda Schull, Amy Aquino, Jack Mikesell, and Andrew Lewis Caldwell, the latter of whom lights things up as the dreaded Megawatt.

Despite being widely available for less than 24 hours as of the time of writing, Spider-Noir has proven to be a smashing success right out the gate. Currently, Spider-Noir has a 92% "Certified Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

This comes as little surprise for fans, who have spent months watching on as the anticipation surrounding Spider-Noir's release ramped up. Back in March, Uziel promised fans that Cage's Spider was very much the "same character, different universe."

"It's a different flavor of that character, even though it’s still Nic’s voice. It's not a continuation of Into the Spider-Verse. Once Phil and Chris introduced the idea of the multiverse, I think you're allowed to take things and make them your own... To make a version of Spider-Man that no one had ever seen before," Uziel added.

Spider-Noir premiered May 25, 2026 on MGM+ in the US and premieres globally May 27, 2026 on Prime Video.
