Hey there, Spidey fans! I hope this post finds you all well. Recently, Hasbro unveiled some new Spider-Man Marvel Legends figures, but with a twist: These new figures also come with a Magic: The Gathering card. While a regular Marvel Legends figure costs about $25, these will retail for a whopping $40. Yes, that’s right, the cards are really driving the price of these particular figures up another $15. Is it worth it? Well… let’s take a look and you can decide for yourselves… while also getting your monthly dose of Spider-Man history on top for good measure!
Spider-Man (Battle Damaged)

Spider-Man with a damaged costume is nothing new. In fact, ToyBiz made this look in figure form in their old “Spider-Man: The Animated Series” line, Spider-Man Classics Series II, and even the first wave of “Spider-Man” (2002) movie figures. However, when Hasbro took over the Marvel license back in 2007, this battle damaged look has been scarce, if non-existent. As far as the comics go, this occurred in “Marvel Super Heroes: Secret Wars” #8 (which led to the birth of Venom, of course), Adjectiveless “Spider-Man” #5, and “The Amazing Spider-Man” Volume 2, #34, just to name a few instances. As for the new figure, I think he looks cool, and I’ll be happy to have him, but I definitely think he could have been a little more “damaged”, as it were. The figure also comes with an unmasked Peter Parker head, a web-shield, alternate hands, a web-line, and the aforementioned Magic: The Gathering card, of course.
Agent Anti-Venom

Agent Anti-Venom is, at his core, a repaint of this year’s earlier Agent Venom Retro figure, but there are some notable differences. This figure comes with a new set of four symbiote tentacles which can hold his guns, just like the old figure had. He also has 5 guns (oddly colored blue), 2 gun smoke effects and 2 gun blast effects (both oddly colored green) and some alternate hands, as well as a card. While his accessories received some strange color choices, the figure itself is pretty cool, and I’ll be sure to pick him up.
Mary Jane Watson (Iron Spider)

I never thought we’d see Mary Jane in Peter’s Iron Spider costume get a figure, but here we are, and she looks pretty neat! She comes with an alternate masked head, thwipping hands, four waldos, and a card. This wasn’t a look for Mary Jane that I thought I needed a figure of, but I’ll definitely be picking her up. Mary Jane first wore this red and gold armor in “The Amazing Spider-Man” Volume 4, #15.
Man-Wolf (Stargod)

Had you told me that we’d be getting a Man-Wolf figure in his Stargod look, I wouldn’t have believed you. That would require an all new sculpt, and yet… here we are! I’ll just say that while this is not the version of Man-Wolf that I wanted a Marvel Legend of, there’s no denying how cool he looks here! The figure comes with alternate hands, a bow, arrows, and a sword, as well as an articulated jaw! Oh yeah, and a card. John Jameson first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man” Volume 1, #1, while Man-Wolf first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man” #124, and the Stargod identity first appeared in “Marvel Premier” #45. Here’s hoping Man-Wolf’s classic costume is still in the cards for getting a figure.
So, where do I stand on these figures? I think the figures themselves are great! But the price we’re expected to pay is just awful! I don’t think the extra $15 being tacked onto these because of the cards are worth it. While I applaud Hasbro for trying something new, I’m hoping this idea is quickly abandoned. I’d hate to have to pay $40 to get a Mirage figure, despite wanting a hypothetical figure so terribly.
Spider-Man and Agent Anti-Venom will be available everywhere, while Mary Jane and Man-Wolf are Amazon and Fan Channel exclusives. These will be available by November, though possibly earlier.
