For decades, one of the most familiar Spider-Man comic adventures in the United States occurred in the pages of newspaper strips acros the United States, as Stan Lee wrote a newspaper comic strip starring the Amazing Spider-Man from the late 1970s until the late 2010s, when it concluded following the passing of Stan Lee (Roy Thomas had been ghost-writing the strip by that point).
Now, CBR can exclusively announce that Clover Press will continue its popular softcover reprints of these Spider-Man newspaper strips with more than four years' worth of strips in collections for 1981-1984 (including some 1980 strips, as well)! Here is the Kickstarter that will be used to crowdfund the collection!
What is Included in the Spider-Man Collections?

Originally remastered and collected by The Library of American Comics in hardcover editions that are now largely out of print, these classic newspaper strips are highly sought after by collectors. Thanks to the success of the first Kickstarter, Clover Press is continuing to republish the series in affordable softcover editions of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, reprinting each strip just as readers experienced them nationwide, with the full-color Sunday pages integrated with the dailies. Each volume will measure 11" x 8.5" in a horizontal format and come housed in a vertical slipcase designed for protection and easy shelving. Backing this Kickstarter campaign will allow readers to get all four volumes in one bundle. The campaign will also include a puzzle, stickers, lithographs, a second pocket book facsimile and more.
What Does Clover Press Have to Say About the Spider-Man Collections?
Image via Clover PressClover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz noted in a press release, "By the early 1980s, Spider-Man was firmly established on the newspaper page.” said “Following the success of our campaign to collect the first four years of The Amazing Spider-Man Newspaper Comic, we are thrilled to continue the line. The strips from 1980 to 1984 feature a more seasoned wall crawler navigating longer, more intricate storylines that balance action, emotional drama, and classic Peter Parker misfortune. This era paired Stan Lee with a rotating roster of artists, including Larry Lieber, Fred Kida, and Floro Dery, each bringing their own visual style to the daily strip.”
Clover Press' collection of the Spider-Man strips from 1977-1980 were a major success. The strips had been available in hardcover collections before, but Clover's softcover editions have been a lot more accessible for fans. These are strips that have been VERY rarely reprinted over the years, so for longtime Spider-Man fans, this is years' worth of never-before-seen official Spider-Man adventures.
The comic strip was a major part of Spider-Man history, as Lee's desire to have Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson get married in the comic strip led to Peter and Mary Jane marrying in the comic book, as well.
