"Starring Terence Stamp" Series Showcases Iconic Superman Films at Egyptian Theatre
Posted on August 27, 2025 by Neil Cole
The American Cinematheque is proud to announce the launch of its "Starring Terence Stamp" retrospective, a tribute to the late English actor whose career spanned more than six decades and left an indelible mark on world cinema. The series opens with two of Stamp's most memorable screen appearances: "Superman: The Movie" and its celebrated sequel, "Superman II". Both screenings will take place at the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
On Friday, September 5, 2025, at 7:00 PM, audiences will experience Richard Donner's groundbreaking "Superman: The Movie" (1978) on the big screen in DCP format. The film introduced Christopher Reeve in his career-defining role as Clark Kent, with supporting performances from Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman, and remains one of the most influential superhero films ever made. The following afternoon, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 3:00 PM, the Egyptian Theatre will present Richard Lester's "Superman II" (1980), in which Terence Stamp delivers his iconic performance as General Zod, the Kryptonian villain freed from the Phantom Zone who threatens Earth alongside Ursa and Non. Together, the two screenings offer audiences the chance to revisit a cinematic milestone and one of Stamp's most enduring roles.
Both events are ticketed at $12 for members and $17 for general admission, inclusive of a $2 online booking fee. Admission is RSVP-only, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning that advance booking is strongly encouraged but does not guarantee entry.
The Superman screenings are part of a larger retrospective series running through September 25, 2025, which will also include "The Limey", "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", "Billy Budd", "The Collector", and a double feature of "Toby Dammit" and "Teorema". Each title has been curated to showcase the wide range of Stamp's talent, from his early Academy Award-nominated performance in "Billy Budd" to his acclaimed turn in Steven Soderbergh's "The Limey".
Founded in 1984, the American Cinematheque is a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to celebrating the communal experience of cinema. With year-round programming that spans repertory screenings, retrospectives, filmmaker Q&As, and immersive live events, the Cinematheque presents films across several Los Angeles venues including the Aero, Los Feliz 3, and its flagship, the Egyptian Theatre.
