Dynamite Entertainment is about to take comic book readers on a whole new adventure set in the world of Lilo & Stitch.
Per a press release from Dynamite Entertainment, the next chapter in the original animated story that began with 2002's Lilo & Stitch is set to continue with a brand-new series from writers Connor Ratliff and James III and artist Greta Xella simply titled Stitch. The first issue of the new series goes on sale August 27, and will find none other than Doctor Jumba Jookiba attempting to maintain his status in the interstellar organization known as E.G.G.S., the Evil Genius Group-slash-Syndicate.

The official solicit synopsis for Stitch #1 from Dynamite Entertainment reads, "While he no longer considers himself fully "evil," he really wants to stay in E.G.G.S. - mainly for their great dental plan, and complimentary intergalactic travel lounges. What's a morally flexible genius to do? Why, create a series of evil inventions in an attempt to remain qualified, of course! There's just one problem (well, two, if you count Pleakley's vain attempts to rein in the good doctor): Stitch is a wild card that Jumba can never properly account for in his calculations - and the fuzzy little ball of chaos finds a way to ruin every one of his brilliant inventions!"
The original animated film from 2002 introduced the world to Stitch, a lovable if destructive blue alien otherwise known as Experiment 626. Created by Jookiba as part of a grand experiment involving genetic modification and mutation, Stitch and his adoptive human family quickly became staples of the Disney lineup in the early 2000s, receiving an animated series, numerous video games, and countless pieces of tie-in merchandise in the years that followed the release of Lilo & Stitch. In May, Lilo & Stitch made its way back into theaters, this time in the form of the latest live-action remake of a beloved Disney animated film.
Despite some pushback from fans of the original, the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch brought in more than $1.032 billion during its theatrical run, all against a budget of $100 million. The film was met with relatively strong, if somewhat middling, reviews from critics, earning it a 72% "Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across more than 200 verified critical reviews. For comparison, the 2002 animated original holds an 86% "Fresh" rating via Rotten Tomatoes as of the time of writing.
Stitch #1 goes on sale August 27 from Dynamite Entertainment.
