Tax Credit Approval Signals Possible Ohio Production for DC Studios' "Man of Tomorrow"

Posted on February 13, 2026 by Neil Cole
The Ohio Department of Development has approved nearly $2 million in motion picture tax credits for a major DC Studios production widely believed to be tied to "Man of Tomorrow", the anticipated follow-up to 2025's "Superman". The film is currently scheduled for theatrical release on July 9, 2027.
The tax credit application was submitted under the working title "Exodus" and outlines a production budget estimated at approximately $330 million. The project lists James Gunn as director, with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan attached to reprise their leading roles. The creative team and scale strongly suggest the production represents the next chapter in DC Studios' evolving cinematic slate.
Ohio previously played a prominent role in bringing Superman to life, with extensive filming conducted in Cleveland and other parts of the state in 2024. That production generated substantial economic impact, employing hundreds of Ohio residents and utilizing local vendors, craftspeople, and production crews. State officials and film industry advocates have credited Ohio's competitive incentive structure with helping secure major studio projects that showcase the region's architecture, infrastructure, and workforce capabilities.
Under the Motion Picture Tax Credit Program guidelines, approved projects must meet specific eligibility requirements - including verified in-state spending and adherence to production timelines - before credits are finalized. Preliminary filings indicate potential pre-production activity could begin as early as mid-June 2026, with principal photography projected to conclude by late August, though official studio confirmation has not yet been issued.
Ohio's program offers a refundable tax credit of 30 percent on eligible in-state expenditures, positioning the state as an increasingly competitive destination for high-profile film and television productions. Industry observers note that even a limited return of the Superman franchise would reinforce Ohio's growing reputation within the national production landscape.
While studio representatives have not publicly confirmed the project's identity, the alignment of personnel, scope, and timing with "Man of Tomorrow" has fueled anticipation that the Man of Steel may once again take flight in the Buckeye State ahead of its 2027 release.
Additional production details are expected to be announced in the months ahead.
