Posted on March 06, 2026 by Neil Cole
The Peoria Riverfront Museum in Peoria, IL will host two special screenings of "Superman: The Movie" inside its Giant Screen Theater on Saturday, March 14th, at 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Originally released in 1978, the blockbuster film helped redefine the superhero genre for the modern era and introduced audiences worldwide to Christopher Reeve's iconic portrayal of the Man of Steel. The film also features an acclaimed cast including Marlon Brando as Jor-El, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, and Margot Kidder as Lois Lane.
The film chronicles the journey of Kal-El, the last son of Krypton, who is sent to Earth as an infant and raised as Clark Kent by Kansas farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent. As an adult, Clark embraces his extraordinary powers and his destiny as Superman, protecting the city of Metropolis while balancing his life as a reporter for the Daily Planet.
The screenings will take place in the museum's immersive Giant Screen Theater, which features a massive screen measuring approximately five stories high by seven stories wide - 52 feet tall and 70 feet across. The theater's towering screen and immersive sound system create a larger-than-life cinematic environment designed to fully envelop audiences in the film experience.
Located along the Illinois River in downtown Peoria, the Peoria Riverfront Museum is a multidisciplinary cultural institution dedicated to connecting art, science, history, and achievement through exhibitions, films, and educational programming for visitors of all ages.
The March 14 presentation is part of the museum's Saturday Night Feature programming, which regularly showcases classic and popular films in the Giant Screen Theater environment.
Tickets and additional information are available through the museum's Giant Screen Theater website at PeoriaRiverFrontGST.org/.
