The Scarlet Witchs New Apprentice Might Be Even More Powerful Than Her Mentor

1 week ago 10

The following contains major spoilers for Scarlet Witch #6, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

The Scarlet Witch has a brand new apprentice, and she could be the strongest Master of the Mystic Arts yet.

Scarlet Witch #6 finds the titular hero taking on a strange request at the behest of Agatha Harkness, specifically that of serving as a mentor to the enigmatic young sorceress known as Amaranth. Before the two can really get to know one another, however, they are besieged by the threat of the Eliminator, a mechanized monstrosity bent on hunting down any witches it can find. When the Eliminator sets off a self-destruct spell capable of taking Wanda and Amaranth out of existence with it, the latter shows off just how capable she is by absorbing the spell and simply snuffing it out as though it were nothing at all in the first place.

Introduced all the way back in 1969's Fantastic Four #94 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Agatha Harkness is one of the most well known witches in the entire Marvel Universe. Originally, Agatha presented herself as a doting elder nanny to the then infantile Franklin Richards. Soon enough, however, Agatha was proving exactly how powerful she was by single-handedly defeating the likes of the Frightful Four.

Although Agatha Harkness was largely relegated to obscurity, her popularity has exploded in recent years. This is mostly due to Kathryn Hahn's portrayal of Agatha Harkness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in series such as WandaVision and the recently released Agatha All Along. Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum recently hinted at the future of the trilogy that began with the former series and continued with the latter, noting, "I think that we all want to see more adventures in Westview... That poor town, can they catch a break between WandaVision and Agatha? Come on."
