A new ThunderCats series is officially on the way, and it's being teased as launching a bold new era for the franchise. Dynamite Entertainment has revealed new information about its upcoming Cheetara series.
Saladin Ahmed (Miles Morales: Spider-Man) is the new writer for ThunderCats: Cheetara, which will feature art by Andrea Ancari. Dynamite Entertainment revealed that the first issue of the series will be released on September 9, 2026 and gave a sneak peek into where the story will take readers. "Cheetara is used to hearing what others can't… but this is different. Bold, relentless voices that contradict the Book of Omens and praise the Mu'Tants. Cheetara is fast, but even she can't outrun these new visions that threaten to send her on a journey of discovery and danger…"
New ThunderCats Series Kicks Off a Wave of New Titles This September
Dynamite Entertainment also teased a variety of different cover art fans will be able to purchase upon release. Dynamite's store currently has the main cover, by Mark Spears, available in a special premium metal format with a hefty price tag of $100, as well as a $50 virgin variant. Copies signed by Saladin Ahmed are also on sale for $50. A 'premium mystery blind bag' can also be preordered for $20.
Several other covers will also be available, showcasing Cheetara looking as powerful as ever. Fans of the classic 1980s ThunderCats series will also be able to get their hands on a special variant cover featuring animation art from the show.
Dynamite's CEO and owner, Nick Barrucci, spoke about the upcoming Cheetara series in a statement shared on Bleeding Cool. "We have signed Saladin Ahmed to write our new Cheetara series! I've wanted to work with Saladin for about a decade, ever since he launched the Black Bolt series from Marvel."
Barrucci continued: "His Miles Morales run was great, and his Amazing Spider-Man Annual was truly 'Chef's Kiss' with great Gary Brown art. And beyond his comics work, he is also a science fiction/fantasy poetry and prose writer. His 2012 book Throne of the Crescent Moon was nominated for the Hugo Award for Best Novel and won the Locus Award for Best First Novel. And these are just some highlights! And we've touched base over the years, and finally, we had the title that he wanted to write, and he made time! It's just so great!"
The Dynamite CEO went on to add how Cheetara sets up further titles in the ThunderCats franchise, calling it a "first salvo in the new wave of ThunderCats titles, following the conclusion of the ThunderCats X SilverHawks crossover with Declan Shalvey and Ed Brisson at the helm."

In July 2024, Dynamite launched their first Cheetara adventures, with writer Soo Lee and artist Domenico Carbone at the helm. That series focused on her earlier days before she arrived on Third Earth, trying to find her place in the universe.
Several other ThunderCats comics have also been released over the years, with Marvel Comics releasing a series based on the animated show through its Star Comics imprint back in 1985. In 2002, DC Comics' WildStorm Productions released several non-canon miniseries and one-shots as well.
