Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) Replaces Ramin Djawadi as "Supergirl" Composer"

Posted on February 06, 2026 by Neil Cole

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures have announced that acclaimed composer Tom Holkenborg, also known as Junkie XL, will compose the score for "Supergirl". Holkenborg replaces Ramin Djawadi, who was previously attached to the film.

The composer change reflects an evolving creative direction for "Supergirl" as the film moves deeper into post-production. Holkenborg brings extensive blockbuster experience to the project, having scored major studio releases including "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", "Zack Snyder's Justice League", "Mad Max: Fury Road", "Deadpool", "Godzilla vs. Kong", and "Rebel Moon". His work is known for blending large-scale orchestral themes with modern electronic elements.

"Supergirl" is directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira and stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. The film follows Supergirl on an expansive interstellar journey shaped by trauma, resilience, and revenge, offering a more hardened and battle-tested portrayal of the character compared to previous on-screen interpretations. The narrative is inspired by elements of the "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" comic book storyline, positioning the film as both a character study and a space-faring epic.

The ensemble cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa, further strengthening the film's dramatic range and genre appeal. Production has emphasized a grounded emotional core alongside large-scale visual spectacle, signaling a distinct tonal identity within the broader DC Universe.

"Supergirl" is a key installment in DC Studios' "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters", the first phase of the newly unified DC Universe overseen by DC Studios leadership. The film plays a pivotal role in expanding the franchise's cosmic mythology while introducing audiences to a new generation of DC heroes.

The film is currently scheduled for theatrical release on June 26, 2026, with worldwide distribution planned across standard and premium large-format screens, including IMAX. Additional details regarding the film's music, marketing rollout, and soundtrack release are expected to be announced at a later date.
