The Top Comics to Buy for September 10 is just loaded with superheroes, from Batman to Superman to Wolverine to the return of the classic creator-owned comic, Powers. It’s just a packed week for super books, and I think it speaks to those comics being stronger this year than they have been of late. And if a bunch of good superhero books isn’t enough, we also have Transformers. It’s a fun week to indulge in your childhood favs.
Also! If you like my comics recommendations, next week I’m launching a Kickstarter for a horror comic of my own, and you can go to this page to get notified when it goes live. Thanks…and enjoy the usual set of release lists and recommendations!
Top Comics to Buy for September 10, 2025
Batman: Dark Patterns #10
Writer: Dan Watters
Artist: Hayden Sherman
Colorist: Triona Farrell
Letterer: Frank Cvetkovic
Publisher: DC Comics
A mysterious arsonist has been secretly guiding the growth of Gotham and Batman from the shadows… now their dark design enters its final stage. Will this grand work be a success, or will the world’s greatest detective douse the blazing plot before it’s too late?
Why It’s Cool: The inspiring thing to me about this comic is how each issue feels like the best issue of the book yet. Through its run, Batman – Dark Patterns has routinely ended on a note that makes me think, they can’t possibly top this. And then they do. And this tenth issue is no exception.
Price: $4.99
Powers 25 #1
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Michael Avon Oeming
Colorist: Nick Filardi
Letterer: Joshua Reed
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics – Jinxworld
A fun, dangerous, adult look at a world of heroes through the eyes of special homicide officer Detective Kutter and her brand-new partner, and the first power to ever make powers division, Moebius Moon. Under the watchful eyes of legendary Captains Deena Pilgrim and Enki Sunrise, the new detectives are running through a minefield of all new dangers. A new unsolvable powers murder has Kutter and Moon questioning EVERYTHING about the world and their place in it.
Why It’s Cool: I am a total Powers super fan. I read the original run as a kid when it was first coming out. I have the new Dark Horse compendiums on shelves above my desk as I write this right now. I just love the book — and this new return issue exceeded my lofty expectations. It’s just such a great jumping on point, and a natural next evolution for Powers as a story. I highly recommend it to old fans and new readers alike.
Price: $4.99
Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #2
Writer: W. Maxwell Prince
Artist: Martin Morazzo
Colorist: Chris O’Halloran
Letterer: Good Old Neon
Publisher: DC Comics – Black Label
This colorful cruise through a cornucopia of curious new Kryptonites continues! After last issue’s timey- wimey race against (or was it toward?) the clock, Superman (with Batman’s help!) is left to deal with the sizable effects of cobalt Kryptonite. Watch in awe as the Man of Steel grows, grows… and grows some more, bringing us the Kal-El kaiju comic of our collective dreams! What’s happened to the fortress? Why is Supes-zilla so angry? And what on earth is Chemo doing here?
Why It’s Cool: This second issue expands the great story started by the first chapter into one that touches even more corners of the DCU, and it’s great. I’ve been a fan of this creative team’s breakout book, Ice Cream Man, for many years, and it’s a real treat to see how well their finely-honed collaboration and sensibilities translates to a DC Black Label title. This one is a must-read.
Price: $5.99
Transformers #24
Writer: Daniel Warren Johnson
Artist: Jorge Corona
Colorist: Mike Spicer
Letterer: Rus Wooton
Publisher: Image Comics – Skybound
This is it. And the new era of TRANSFORMERS begins with the most shocking ending to ANY comic book this year!
Why It’s Cool: I’m taking a leap of faith adding this one to my Top Comics to Buy for September 10, given that the back 1/3 of the book was redacted and not previewed to press. Combine that with solicit copy (see above) that promised “the most shocking ending to ANY comic book this year!”, and I’m guessing we’re getting some pretty consequential events in this issue, potentially events that shape the excellent Energon Universe in new ways. And hell, the first 2/3 of this book were great, as has been this entire run.
Price: $3.99
Ultimate Wolverine #9
Writer: Christopher Condon
Artist: Alessandro Cappuccio
Colorist: Bryan Valenza
Letterer: Cory Petit
Publisher: Marvel Comics
With Wolverine reunited with the Opposition, it’s time to hit back at Colossus, Magik and Omega Red — and hit HARD! But the Opposition isn’t prepared for the horrors that await them when they attack a factory secretly producing powerful android soldiers…
Why It’s Cool: Regular readers of this space know that I’ve been loving Ultimate Wolverine, which perfectly blends the complex alternate reality high concept of the new Ultimate Universe with big time mutant action. And this issue is no exception. Plus, we see where Cyclops is in this world, and man is it gnarly. Don’t miss it!
