Uh-Oh: Sony’s ‘Kraven the Hunter’ Looking at ‘Madame Web’ Numbers

6 days ago 5

Kraven the Hunter’s box office predictions are on track to break a Marvel movie record for Sony’s Spider-Man-Less Spider-Man Universe — and not in any good way.

J.C. Chandor’s upcoming Kraven the Hunter is the first R-rated movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, and it will introduce at least three new Spider-Man villains in the franchise: the titular Kraven, Rhino, and Kraven’s brother Chameleon. Kraven the Hunter will release only two months after Venom: The Last Dance, which is tracking behind Sony’s previous two Venom movies at the box office.

Per BoxOfficePro, Kraven the Hunter is projected to earn $20-25 million domestically throughout its first three days in theaters. This figure is considerably lower than Morbius‘ $39 million domestic opening weekend. Kraven the Hunter could also match Madame Web‘s abysmal six-day $25.8 million opening earnings, potentially making it one of the lowest-grossing films in Marvel movie history.

Who is the dumb-ass greenlighting these losers? We called this six months ago, if not sooner.

Although it seems likely for Kraven the Hunter‘s box office to go down the same path as Morbius and Madame Web, some lunatics in Hollywood who will remain anonymous suggest that Kraven the Hunter could potentially “turn the tide” for Sony’s Spider-Man-Less Spider-Verse. They point to Kraven the Hunter‘s R rating is a sign of confidence from the studio, since R-rated comic book films like Joker and the Deadpool trilogy fared quite well.  The latest Joker sequel also had an R-rating, and how did THAT go…?

I'm not as much of a "CoMiCs NeEd MoAr DiVeRsItY & iNcLuSiOn" advocate as my girlfriend often is, but we both love funny books, crispy bacon, straight bourbon and hip hop. Add yet, we never vote the same, so we cancel each other out... and that works perfectly in my book!
