Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

There are few eras of cinematic horror as influential as Universal Pictures' run of monster movies. One of the scariest entries from that time, The Wolf Man, is making a return in a way that should have fans beaming like the Moon.

This summer, Skybound is releasing Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man, a new, terrifying tale from the world of the 1941 classic.

The story follows a college student named Adam Jaeger, who becomes one of the few survivors of a brutal massacre at a party that he was attending. To make matters worse, he has reason to believe that the monster responsible for the horror is him.

The comic's official logline suggests that Adam may be suffering from the same curse that was bestowed upon Larry Talbot, played by Lon Chaney Jr., after being bitten by a strange, hairy creature in The Wolf Man. The age-old tale of a man doomed to transform into a half-man, half-animal hybrid under the light of a full moon has inspired countless other classic werewolf movies, including a direct, gothic remake in 2010 and Leigh Whannell's modern reimagining from 2025.

Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man comes from the mind of writer Joshua Williamson, who is known best for his superhero-related efforts for DC Comics, such as collaborating with Scott Snyder on the DC K.O. event more recently. However, he made a few good horror comics in his day, such as Nailbiter and Dark Ride for Image Comics.

The author shared his excitement for the upcoming horror comic book series on social media.

As Williamson mentions in his post, collaborating with him on Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man are artists Leomacs and Pip Martin. The former, an Italian illustrator, has also worked at DC Comics, specifically drawing horror titles like Basketful of Heads and the Sandman spin-off, Lucifer. He previously worked with Williamson on DC's neo-noir crime thriller series, Rogues.

Martin is a U.K.-based colorist who also specializes primarily in horror. Some of the most notable titles on her resume include Everything Dead and Dying and the hit horror movie prequel comic, Event Horizon: Dark Descent.

Skybound Has Released Other Universal Monsters-Inspired Comics

Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man is only one of many titles released by Skybound, an imprint of Image Comics, that are spun off from the world-famous Universal Monsters property.

For instance, March 2025 saw the debut of Universal Monsters: The Mummy #1, which follows a woman lured to the site of an Egyptian dig that unleashes an ancient evil. Faith Erin Hicks and Lee Loughridge serve as the creative team behind this reimagining of the 1932 favorite starring Boris Karloff in the title role.

Speaking of Boris Karloff, the legendary actor is even better known among the horror community and film historians in general as The Creature from the 1931 film based on Mary Shelley's seminal novel, Frankenstein. Said adaptation serves as the basis for Michael Walsh, Becca Carey, and Toni-Marie Griffin's series, Universal Monsters: Frankenstein, which reanimates the lore in an electrifying new direction.

Of course, no reimagining of the Universal Monsters franchise would be complete without a new take on Bela Lugosi's highly influential portrayal of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The Eisner Award-nominated miniseries comes from acclaimed horror comics writer James Tynion IV with art by Martin Simmonds.

Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man #1 emerges in comic book stores and on digital platforms on June 24, 2026.
