Rob Liefeld just teased a Marvel Comics crossover that fans would love to see, and there's no telling how serious he is.
In a recent social media post, Liefeld responded to a teaser of the upcoming Planet of the Apes Versus Fantastic Four crossover, writing, "Just wait until Star Wars/Avengers next year... yeesh." While it may seem obvious that Liefeld is being tongue-in-cheek with that statement, there is a very real possibility that he isn't entirely joking.
Best known as the co-creator of both Cable and Deadpool, as well as one of the co-founders of Image Comics, Rob Liefeld has been a prominent part of the comic book industry for decades. Although Liefeld has attained a reputation for being occasionally abrasive, his impact across the realm of comics cannot be understated.
In 2025, one of Liefeld's most iconic creations, Youngblood, returned with a new series, the first two issues of which swiftly sold out at the distributor level before being rushed back to printing for a second run. Liefeld said at the time, "There's room in the tent for fans young and old! We are committed to making this reader-friendly, entry-level storyline in print as long as demand persists! Deep gratitude for the continued support!"
Although Liefeld's statement about a Star Wars/Avengers crossover comic likely wasn't meant to be taken seriously, there is always a chance that such a title will come to fruition. In recent years, various Marvel superheroes ranging from Spider-Man to Wolverine to the entire Avengers roster have crossed over with numerous other properties, including Alien, Predator, Godzilla, and even the world of DC Comics.
Will Star Wars/Avengers Actually Release From Marvel Comics?
Image via Lucasfilm/Marvel ComicsThere is also the fact that, as of now, Marvel Comics holds the rights to Star Wars, which will probably be the case for decades to come, or however long Disney controls both franchises. That, coupled with the plethora of Star Wars comics that Marvel has published in recent years, is more than enough to leave fans waiting for the announcement of a Star Wars and Marvel Comics crossover, no matter how much such a project seems like a pipe dream.
Among the more recent hit Star Wars comics published by Marvel is Star Wars: The Legacy of Vader — The Reign of Kylo Ren by writer Charles Soule, artist Luke Ross, colorist Nolan Woodard, and letterer Joe Caramagna. The series followed Kylo Ren's journey to the depths of Mustafar in search of the secrets behind Darth Vader's vast wealth of power and command of the Dark Side.
In early February, writer Charles Soule teased the future of Kylo Ren in comics, writing, "What the h*ll kind of a series ender is that? What was I thinking? That's terribly inconclusive and unsatisfying... I hope we find out what all that means someday. IF ANYTHING. You know these writer types, thinking they're cooler than they are, pulling these dumb tricks when readers just want a cool story. Anyway."
Marvel-branded comics can be purchased wherever comics are sold.
