One of DC's greatest heroes has just been reimagined as one of the Absolute Universe's biggest monsters.

While the likes of Jo Mullein and her enigmatic allies are busy dealing with the fallout of Goldface's brazen attack, an even bigger threat is just beginning to emerge in the pages of Absolute Green Lantern #10 (by Al Ewing, Sid Kotian, Pressy, and Lucas Gattoni). As it turns out, Hector Hammon has been running some dangerous experiments with the black fluid pulled from Hal Jordan, and Todd Rice just paid the price for it by becoming a whole new breed of Obsidian.

DC Comics' original Todd Rice was introduced back in the pages of 1983's All-Star Squadron #25 by Roy Thomas and Jerry Ordway. The son of the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, and the supervillainous Rose Canton, better known as Thorn, Todd and his twin sister Jade were both given up for adoption, with the former ending up in a horribly abusive household. When the siblings reconnected in their teens, they discovered not just their family but their respective powers, setting them off on their journey to become heroes in their own right.

Capable of commanding the shadows themselves and wielding darkness itself as Obsidian, Todd Rice has proven himself time and time again as one of DC's most underrated powerhouses. In the years since his comic book debut, Obsidian has become a key member of teams like the Justice Society of America and has played an integral part in comic book events like DC Comics' Infinity Clock.

Hector Hammond is one of the most iconic Green Lantern villains of all time, most frequently serving as one of Hal Jordan's nemeses. First seen in 1961's Green Lantern #5 by John Broome and Gil Kane, the classic Hector Hammond gained immense psychic abilities after being exposed to a strange meteorite. This, coupled with his unfathomable greed, has made Hammond into the perfect vessel for the entity known as Ophidian, and has driven the villain to terrorize the wider DC Universe at numerous turns.

The Hector Hammond of the Absolute Universe doesn't display any powers of his own, though that doesn't mean he doesn't wield any whatsoever. As the head of Hammond Consulting, the Absolute iteration of the character commands near limitless resources that have helped him claim control over the site where the interstellar Green Lantern crashed down on Earth.

This Hector Hammond is also one of the members of the Absolute Universe's twisted Justice League. Alongside the likes of Veronica Cale and the Joker, Hammond is officially one of the most dangerous villains that the Absolute Universe has to offer, even if he has no idea what that means as of yet.

Absolute Green Lantern #10 is on sale now from DC Comics.

The Justice League, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter, pose together on the Justice League of America Vol. 1 comic cover.
