Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
The key to the Absolute Universe's success is not just the wild reinventions of beloved DC characters, but also its unique approach to the storytelling. The most profound example from the current lineup might be Absolute Martian Manhunter.
In fact, despite Absolute Batman topping the rest in sales, many believe this refreshing take on the extraterrestrial detective is the Absolute Universe's true crown jewel, which is why its quickly approaching finale is a source of great pain. However, author Deniz Camp recently appeared to imply that Absolute Martian Manhunter's ending could be upsetting for more than one reason.
Did Deniz Camp Hint At A Tragic Absolute Martian Manhunter Ending?
On June 24, 2026, Absolute Martian Manhunter artist Javier Rodríguez posted to social media the official cover art for the series' twelfth issue, which will also serve as its last. The comic's scribe, Deniz Camp, then quoted the tweet with a caption that some may have found alarming.
At first glance, this appears to be the writer's way of expressing his grief over the upcoming conclusion to Absolute Martian Manhunter, seeing as how authors often tend to treat their work as their own "children." However, what if Camp is making a more literal admission with this social media post, suggesting the story ends with the demise of a main character?
If this is true, then it is unlikely that the green, one-eyed title character meets a bitter end, seeing as how his involvement in the highly anticipated Absolute Universe crossover event as the one who unites the other heroes in the timeline has been confirmed. Yet, that does not rule out the FBI agent who serves as the Martian's human host, John Jones, whose death would be especially tragic after all he has endured struggling to balance his job with his rocky home life.
Absolute Martian Manhunter is a widely acclaimed reimagining of the powerful Justice League member created by Joseph Samachson and Joe Certa in 1955. Instead of a single-bodied lawman from outer space with an arsenal of abilities ranging from flight to shapeshifting, the comic follows a human being who gains psychic abilities when becoming bonded with a Martian boasting similar goals of keeping the peace.
Deniz Camp Has Also Said Goodbye To Marvel's Ultimates
Image via MarvelFans have every reason to believe that Deniz Camp's tweet about how "his babies are dying all at the same time" is not literally referring to his characters from Absolute Martian Manhunter. Further supporting that belief is the fact that another one of his most popular comic book series also came to an end recently.
Also on June 24, Marvel Comics released Ultimate Universe: Finale #1, an anthology-style one-shot serving as a conclusion to its Ultimate Universe imprint... at least for now. Camp's series The Ultimates was also part of this timeline.
The story, which launched around the same time as the Absolute Universe in June 2024, follows an alternate version of Tony Stark, also known as Iron Lad, as he assembles a crew of covert operatives. Members include variants of Steve "Captain America" Rogers, Peter "Spider-Man" Parker, Reed Richards, and plenty more.
There is still plenty to look forward to from Camp, whom some have said should try an Absolute approach to his next Marvel venture, perhaps by joining the upcoming horror-inspired Midnight Universe? Either way, one hopes that the ending of Absolute Martian Manhunter is not the last fan see of John Jones after all.
