The following contains spoilers for Adventure Time #13, on sale next month from Oni Press.

Oni Press' Adventure Time series completes its first year of stories this month, and they are already getting ready for the NEXT year's worth of stories, and CBR has an exclusive preview of Adventure Time #13, which kicks off a brand-new saga for Finn and his friends (and foes) in the Land of Ooo.

As we have noted in our past coverage of this popular new series, the series is sort of an "Absolute Adventure Time" type of story, as writer Nick Winn is telling brand-new stories set in the Land of Ooo, but set in the early days of the cartoon series. But not like "untold stories" set between the events of past stories. No, these are brand-new stories that are set in their own continuity, so characters can take VERY different twists and turns, and that's just what we're seeing as the new year's worth of adventure begins in Adventure Time #13, by Winn and new artist John Golden, as Finn is forced to go on a new quest.

ALL-NEW ARC! ALL-NEW JUMPING-ON POINT!

Magic Man causes mayhem in this brand-new adventure (time!) by cartoonist/writer Nick Winn (Bloody Mary) and stellar artist John P Golden (Over the Garden Wall)! More at 11!

Why was Magic Man using Finn’s robotic doppelgänger to steal important artifacts from across Ooo? To impress the one and only Betty Grof, of course! Now a resident of Mars, Betty used to travel Ooo with Marceline and one Simon Petrikov—better known as Ice King! But this family reunion takes a turn for the worse when Magic Man’s jealousy gets the better of him and he accidentally—maybe—starts the apocalypse . . .

A sleight of hand turns sour, and a TEST OF HEROES begins! Can Finn, Jake, Marceline, Princess Bubblegum, and more of your favorite concerned citizens band together to save their home? One thing’s for sure—after this exam, Ooo will never be the same . . .

In the preview pages, we see Finn is steaming mad still after Magic Man used Finn's robotic double (which was created by Computer Princess as part of a scheme that went awry early in the series) to steal objects from various people in Ooo, and we learn that he was working under the direction of Betty Grof, the former girlfriend of Simon Petrikov, who eventually became the insane Ice King following the use of the special crown he wears to give him his ice powers.

Golden is a star on these preview pages, as he captures the various emotions on the character's faces beautifully, as Finn is outraged at what happened to Jake due to Magic Man's actions, while meanwhile, Betty is ill at ease with everyone there, leading to some striking banter between the various characters. Princess Bubblegum's "Dungeon!" pronouncements is particularly hilarious.

In an Oni press release, Nick Winn teased this new story, "Issues 1-12 have led up to the first big test in Finn and Jake's heroics. The Lich and GOLB were just the beginning (and maybe the end???), but these guys have a lot more to clean up now. These issues will take the reader down to the Nightosphere, around the Candy Kingdom, and in and out of Ice King's mind. I'm excited for y'all to enjoy this wacky and intense journey with us!"

Adventure Time #13 is on sale next month, and has its Final Order Cutoff this Monday.
