One of the most influential superhero shows in television history is now beginning to dominate the streaming competition.
Per FlixPatrol, Arrow starring Stephen Amell has taken the number two spot on the list of the top series currently available via video-on-demand on Apple TV in the United States. Currently, Arrow sits behind only RuPaul's Drag Race, while steadily maintaining its position over competition like Landman and It: Welcome to Derry.
Created by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg, who adapted the series from DC Comics' Green Arrow series of titles, Arrow premiered on The CW back in 2012 and introduced audiences to Stephen Amell's Oliver Queen, a billionaire playboy turned lethal antihero who makes it his mission to save his city from the villains who lord over it at every turn. Alongside Amell, Arrow premiered with a leading ensemble cast including David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, and Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak.
Apart from amassing its own staggering 170-episode run over the course of eight seasons on The CW, Arrow gave rise to the entire Arrowverse line of shows, including The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and Batwoman. Throughout its run on television, Arrow maintained strong viewership numbers, as well as strong critical ratings, with the series currently boasting an 86% "Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
Arrow also garnered dozens of major industry award nominations, securing 14 wins in total. Among its most notable awards are the 2014 IGN Award for Best TV Action Series, the 2015 PRISM Award for Performance in a Drama Multi-Episode Story for Katie Cassidy's portrayal of Laurel Lance, and the 2019 Leo Award for Best Stunt Coordination in a Dramatic Series for Jeff Robinson and Eli Zagoudakis' work on the episode "The Slabside Redemption."
How One of the Arrowverse's Biggest Stars Handled Its Finale
Image via The CWAfter so many years of so many different series playing out alongside one another, the Arrowverse as a whole came to a close in 2023 with the final episode of The Flash. Ahead of the series finale, The Flash star Grant Gustin opened up about the end of the wider franchise and its impact on him personally. "I don't know. I was always so focused on what we were doing, which was The Flash," Gustin said at the time.
"I mean, you're aware that you're part of a greater Arrowverse, Berlanti-verse, universe, but there's no point in thinking about the scale of it when you're just kind of learning you're scene and doing your job." Gustin continued, "We wanted to make as many people that had been a part of the Arrowverse be a part of our last season because really, it was the Arrowverse wrapping up. So it didn't really just feel like The Flash wrapping up. It did feel like the whole thing was wrapping up."
"I guess I hadn't thought about it but maybe in some ways, it did make it a little easier knowing the party's not going to keep going without us, it's like we’re shutting this place down."
Arrow is currently available for streaming on Apple TV.
