AVENGERS GIANT-SIZE SPECIAL (2008)

This issue is a harmless and fairly pointless anthology of stories, some new, some reprinted, with many of the creators never (or rarely ever) working for Marvel again. Obviously, we’re only concerned with the original material here–and we’re barely concerned with that.

First, three hot Avengers are shown undressing after beating up members of the Serpent Society.

This framing sequence has a serviceable script by a serviceable writer (CB Cebulski) and decent art by someone who usually does much better than this (Jim Cheung).

It starts with a throw-away fight just to get the ladies all sweaty, where I learned that the Society is calling themselves BAD Girls Incorporated now.  Anyway, after that the hot Avengers put on bikinis as the issue develops and let Jarvis smell their panties….

Actually, he just picks up their tattered leathers after then get home, but it’s funnier to think of him being all nasty kinky.

Poolside, the ladies tell each other about the other stories in the book, which include Jarvis writing a letter about how to throw parties at Avengers mansion, Henry Peter Gyrich having an adventure with robotic dinosaurs, and Luke Cage and Spider-Man doing something with some weird magic guy.  That one’s basically unreadable–the worst story of the lot.  No.  Wait.  The next one, “Memorial Day,” is worse.

Spider-Man appears to be standing at attention while Cap and Iron Man lecture him about how important it is to remember the fallen.  Bloody awful.  There is a tribute panel in this story, though, to the first Avengers story…

But no, that little reference doesn’t make the story any better.

Finally, there’s a cute comedic Fin Fang Foom/Fantastic Four story at the very end by Roger Langridge and Scott Gray. It’s fine, but odd that it appears in an Avengers one-shot.
