The next round of Batman's ongoing battle against his greatest successors has just led to a heartbreaking future family reunion.

DC K.O.: Knightfight #3 (by Joshua Williamson, Dan Mora, Tríona Farrell, and Tom Napotlitano) sees Bruce Wayne rocketed from one harrowing encounter to another, as the Heart of Apokolips itself pits him against various versions of the likes of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Worse still, Bruce's third and seemingly final encounter begins not on the battlefield, but in a bright and shining future Gotham where his grandson, Alfred, can flourish without ever knowing the need for a Batman.

The official solicit synopsis for DC K.O.: Knightfight #3 from DC Comics reads, "All-star creators Joshua Williamson and Dan Mora deliver the next pulse-pounding chapter of Batman's journey during DC K.O., giving us the Dark Knight's greatest challenge yet. Jason Todd is Batman. Tim Drake is Batman. And to complete his mission, Bruce Wayne will have to fight both of them."

"The former Robins aren't giving up without a fight, and it will take everything Batman has — and then some — in order to defeat them. Does Batman have what it takes to defeat both of his pupils, or have the students become the masters?"

At its outset, DC K.O. followed the 32 different heroes and villains who were called upon to battle against one another in the hopes of finding the one fighter capable of standing up to the might of the ascended Darkseid. While the majority of competitors' stories ended with their respective defeats, that was precisely where Batman's current journey began.

After being struck down by the Joker, Batman was transported to a futuristic version of Gotham City that was seemingly in desperate need of help despite the veritable army of Caped Crusaders patrolling its streets. As it turned out, this was just the first of several encounters orchestrated by the Heart of Apokolips, which have consisted of fights against Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake, each of whom has taken up the mantle of Batman under drastically different circumstances.

Bruce's encounter with a future version of Damian Wayne will continue to play out in the pages of DC K.O.: Knightfight #4, which will mark the final issue of the hit limited series. It will also mark Batman's last chance to sneak his way back into the DC K.O. tournament before it reaches its end, assuming he can pass the last test thrust upon him by the Heart of Apokolips.

The wider DC K.O. event is currently slated to come to a head with dozens of characters from across a wide range of fictional universes in DC Comics' upcoming DC K.O.: Boss Battle #1. Among the most hotly anticipated confrontations to come will be between none other than Superman and Homelander, which may end up being even less bloody than the Joker's upcoming encounter with Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees' very own Samantha Strong.

DC K.O.: Knightfight #3 is on sale now from DC Comics.

The cover to Batman issue #1 depicts Bruce Wayne as Batman and Dick Grayson as Robin swinging through Gotham City.
