CBCS to Cease Operations as Parent Company Changes Focus

4 days ago 8

The comic book collecting industry is facing a significant shift as Comic Book Certification Service (CBCS) has announced it will cease operations as part of a broader strategic realignment by its parent company.

CBCS, a well-established third-party grading and authentication service founded in 2014, has been a key player in the comic book certification market for over a decade. Known for its signature verification services and competitive grading options, CBCS developed a strong reputation among collectors and dealers alike.

The decision follows the acquisition of Beckett by Collectors Holdings, which also owns Professional Sports Authenticator.

As part of its long-term strategy, Collectors Holdings is consolidating its grading and authentication services across its portfolio of brands. The company will focus on strengthening the Beckett brand—particularly in trading cards and autograph authentication—while continuing to expand PSA’s presence across multiple collectibles categories, including comic books.

CBCS will stop accepting new submissions in April 2026. The company has stated that all existing orders will be completed, and customers will continue to receive their graded and encapsulated books.

Collectors and dealers should expect a transitional period as the company winds down operations.

For years, CBCS served as a primary alternative to Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), contributing to competitive pricing, turnaround times, and service offerings within the industry.

With CBCS exiting the market, the competitive landscape is expected to shift, with CGC maintaining a dominant position and PSA continuing its expansion into comic book grading.
