Horror icon Chucky may be slicing his way back to the big screen. According to Bloody Disgusting, franchise creator Don Mancini confirmed over the weekend that he’s writing a new Chucky movie. The announcement comes shortly after star Jennifer Tilly teased that “more Chucky is in the works” following the end of the Chucky television series after three seasons.
Mancini told fans at Steel City Con in Pennsylvania that the new film will return to the darker tone of his 2013 hit Curse of Chucky. That entry was the sixth in the franchise and initially looked like a reboot before revealing clear ties to earlier movies. It signaled a revival of the franchise’s horror roots, moving away from the campier humor that took center stage in Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky.
Mancini has directed both Curse of Chucky and 2017’s Cult of Chucky, which together laid the groundwork for the television series that ran for three seasons. He had no involvement in the 2019 remake of Child’s Play, which took place in a separate timeline created by another studio.
According to details confirmed by Bloody Disgusting, Mancini’s upcoming movie will tie directly into both the TV series and the earlier films. He intends to continue the single, continuous storyline that has defined his version of the killer doll’s universe. The new film also aims to restore the genuine sense of fear and suspense that made the first two Child’s Play movies cult favorites among fans.

Mancini is planning for the project to hit theaters rather than debut on television or streaming. If production moves forward as planned, the film would become the ninth in the franchise’s long-running history, though only eight will remain part of Mancini’s original “Chucky Universe.”
For longtime horror fans, it signals a welcome return to the bloodier, more serious tone that first made the franchise famous—and a reminder that Chucky’s reign of terror is far from over.
