Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.

Plenty is rightfully being said about the banner year Marvel Studios and Marvel Comics are set to have in 2026, but DC Studios and DC Comics aren't exactly sitting on the sideline asking for a drink of water. They're mapping out the upcoming release of HBO Max's Lanterns and James Gunn's second DCU blockbuster, Supergirl, for starters, and that includes a surprise reveal.

Also, let's not forget about the October release of the grisly R-rated Clayface.

But, helping to celebrate the first feature film in the DCU for Kara Zor-El, the older Kryptonian cousin to Superman played by Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon, Sirens), is a chronicle created by DC Comics that shows the artful journey to where Supergirl is now, and how far she's come — from panels to big screen.

From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl is a 224-page "curated exploration of Kara Zor‑El’s evolution across sequential art and film", a gorgeous walk through the lore of Supergirl, and also includes an introduction and afterword from Jim Lee of DC Comics' fame.

Per DC Comics' solicitation: "Authored by James Field, this 224-page collection brings together concept art, production design, annotated script pages, and never-before-seen materials that illuminate the dialogue between comic and film. Featuring visuals from the creative team behind Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow—writer Tom King, artist Bilquis Evely, and colorist Matheus Lopes—the volume places their work in conversation with the film’s bracing and otherworldly visual language.

It continued: "Evely’s expressive illustrations appear alongside early cinematic explorations, revealing how themes, motifs, and character moments traveled from layout to finished page, and from storyboard to set. New interviews with the comic’s creators and the filmmakers behind the much-anticipated summer epic provide insight into the collaborative process that guided Kara’s transformation across mediums."

As you can see above, From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl features more Kara, of course, with Jason Momoa's Lobo also being honored, and much more that helps to both commemorate what Supergirl means to DC Comics as a whole, and what she could soon mean to DC Studios.

DC: It's the Summer of Supergirl In 2026

It's key to note that From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl is not the only love the character is getting alongside her feature film.

On June 24, DC Comics will also release a 48-page one-shot, DC's Summer of Supergirl #1, written by Sophie Campbell, Gail Simone and Mark Waid with art by Cian Tormey, Emma Kubert and Belén Ortega, with variant covers from Tula Lotay, Pablo Villalobos nad a movie vairiant from Mahmud Asrar.

This, along with From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl shows exactly how married DC Comics is to James Gunn's and DC Studios' vision for Kara Zor-El, looking to connect her to David Corenswet's Superman, but while establishing her own, and much deserved, identity and standalone arc. Given Gunn's dedication to and love of th source material, it only makes sense that DC Comics would be completely onboard with helping him push the DCU; and fans of the Kryptonians can rejoice accordingly.

Supergirl will debut in theaters worldwide on June 26, 2026.
