Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.

Just when you think there's no way Deadpool can top his cinematic antics that hit a new level in the blockbuster success of Deadpool & Wolverine that changed everything in Hollywood, think again. That's because, believe it or not, Ryan Reynolds' version of Wade Wilson, while master class in its delivery, still pales in comparison to the Marvel Comics original, and could become Marvel's answer to Chip Zdarsky's MAD About DC insanity.

Strap in (the other kind, 'Pool) for what is set to be one hell of a comic book event coming to pull lists near you on April 1, April Fool's Day,

although that date might go by a different moniker from now on, if things go Gail Simone's way, and they often do. Simone returns to gift her incomparable talent towards some prank-filled and almost completely unfiltered fun, at the expense of the Avengers and whomever else can't escape the Merc With a Mouth's antics.

This spring, say hello to April Pool's Day, folks, a one-shot that brings together Simone with none other than famed artist C.F. Villa; as well as a list of other unforgettable talents joining them to make for quite the ride.

DEADPOOL: APRIL POOL'S DAY #1

  • Writer: Gail Simone
  • Art: C.F. Villa & more
  • Cover: David Baldéon
  • Variant Cover: Todd Nauck
  • Variant Cover: Jim Rugg
  • On sale: April 1

And, per an official statement from Marvel on the project, as if the covers alone don't convey the message, this is a must-read ... well ... for those that are of age, anyway.

"This year, Deadpool will once again host April Pool's Day, an epic April Fool's Day celebration! In addition to a boatload of surprises including merchandise, digital content, and more, Marvel Comics will bring the fun to comic shops with a new Deadpool: April Pool's Day one-shot written by legendary Deadpool scribe Gail Simone and drawn by acclaimed artist C.F. Villa and other fan-favorite talent."

Deadpool Is Unfiltered, Punisher Gets Pantsed — Seriously

Floored by the covers for Issue #1? Bless your heart, because that's nothing compared to the Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America and especially the Punisher. Seriously, whatever is going on between Wade Wilson and Frank Castle in that cover has to be explained, and is, but only for those wise, and daring, enough to grab those issues of April Pool's Day shenanigans.

  • Iron Man #3 Variant Cover: Matteo Lolli
  • Punisher #2 Variant Cover: Chad Hardin
  • Wolverine #18 Variant Cover: Phil Noto
  • Captain America #9 Variant Cover: Mark Bagley

The world can thank Chad Hardin for that visual, though he's not alone in seeing Simone's vision for Deadpool on April 1, one that easily rivals even the most hilariously 'Pool arcs in Marvel lore, and serves as a terrific project to break up the silence of not being able to enjoy anything cinematically new from Reynold's Deadpool in nearly two years (le sigh), and potentially not again until Avengers: Doomsday arrives in Dec. 2026, and likely a Deadpool 4 in the future (says a very important person).

Oh, and for all the fun Deadpool is having by pranking his friends in April Pool's Day, let's see what happens when they suddenly need to take him seriously because of a looming "universe-threatening calamity" that forces him to pivot to warn them, only to discover no one believes him, believing it's simply another joke of his. Will he convince them in time? Or will his playfulness doom them all to an early grave?? Insert ... cliffhanger ... here.
