Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is reportedly set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, marking the first full MCU appearance for the irreverent antihero. The move follows the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which finally placed Wade Wilson under the Marvel Studios banner after two earlier 20th Century Fox films. Reports suggest that Avengers: Doomsday will bring back several X-Men veterans, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops.
Industry insider Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus further fueled speculation on X after responding to a rumored list of fight sequences from the film. When asked about a matchup between Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, Perez hinted that Mr. Fantastic may be fighting the “wrong mutant,” then posted a GIF of Reynolds’ Deadpool. When pressed for confirmation, Perez doubled down with another image of the character, adding, “I know, right.”

Earlier reports indicated that Deadpool would appear in multiple MCU projects, including Avengers 5. Details about the size of his role have varied, but Perez’s comments now suggest the question might be settled. Marvel Studios previously confirmed Channing Tatum’s Gambit would return after debuting in Deadpool & Wolverine, pointing toward a potential reunion between the two mutants.
The news came shortly after insider Daniel Richtman said that Reynolds’ Deadpool will play a “major role” in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. He is reportedly expected to reunite with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and appear alongside Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland’s Spider-Men. Reynolds has denied appearing on the Avengers 5 set, but so did Chris Evans, who was later confirmed to reprise his role as Steve Rogers in Doomsday.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, the TVA was shown gathering heroes from across the Multiverse for a larger mission involving the Sacred Timeline. That storyline is expected to continue in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, where Deadpool, Wolverine, and others may finally join forces to face a multiversal threat. If Reynolds’ main storyline is being reserved for Secret Wars, his part in Doomsday might serve as a smaller setup for what comes next.
Fans are also watching closely after Perez’s tease of a potential fight between Reynolds’ Deadpool and Pascal’s Reed Richards. If true, it could hint that Marvel plans to pit its heroes against each other in surprise battles before uniting them against a shared enemy. Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is rumored to rise as the main antagonist, threatening the Multiverse and creating Battleworld before a final showdown in Secret Wars.
Despite fan excitement, bringing Deadpool fully into the MCU could be tricky. His trademark violence and language will need to fit the PG-13 boundaries of Marvel’s main lineup. Analysts expect the studio to refine, but not erase, his edge. “Fans want Deadpool, not a cartoon version of him,” one industry observer said. “Finding that balance will be crucial.”
