Growing up in rural Iowa as a reluctant reader, it all changed when he started reading the original Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Now Austin can't stop reading. He has written about comics for Comic Book Yeti and he has also written tons of indie comics, best known for Big Guns Stupid Rednecks.

Well over two decades ago, Atlantis: The Lost Empire was released in theaters. Now, an official sequel is on the way.

This October, the characters from Atlantis: The Lost Empire make a return in an original graphic novel from Papercutz. From the creative team of writer Matthew Manning and artist Christian Colbert, Atlantis: The Lost Empire Vol. 1: The Curse of Kurok serves as a sequel to the original film and is currently up for preorder. It will be available digitally, in trade paperback, as well as hardcover format.

Atlantis is No Longer Lost

Atlantis has deep ties to comic books that many fans might not realize. The original concept designs for the film were done by the creator of Hellboy, Mike Mignola. This also isn't the first time we have gotten Atlantis comics. In 2001, Dark Horse Comics published a graphic novel adaptation of the film with a cover by Mignola, which Papercutz would later re-release.

Writer of the new OGN, Matthew Manning, is no stranger to comics. He has written hundreds of comics for Marvel, DC, and IDW, as well as dozens of novels. Artist Christian Colbert brings his fun animation-inspired art to the project. Colbert has previously worked on Star Wars comics and for Dark Horse.

Publisher Papercutz began publishing in 2005. They hoped to bring more child-friendly comics into the space. In 2022, they were acquired by Mad Cave. They have previously published many licensed comics, like Nancy Drew, The Smurfs, Lego Ninjago, and Nickelodeon's The Loud House. Atlantis: The Lost Empire has a very cult-like following among its fans, leaving this sequel's arrival to be highly anticipated. Perhaps maybe it'll inspire another animated movie.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire Vol. 1: The Curse of Kurok will be available this October wherever comics are sold.
