Warner Bros says early ticket demand for Dune: Part Three is already breaking records eight months before its December 18 release. Imax 70MM screenings for opening weekend are selling out fast in major markets across North America and London, with one show per day at 19 Imax sites already booked according to recent reporting by Deadline.
The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve and co-written with Brian K. Vaughan, marks the first time the Dune franchise has been shot entirely using Imax cameras. Warner Bros confirmed more tickets will be released soon for the Legendary co-production, signaling strong momentum and confirming there are no plans to move the release date, despite its head-to-head scheduling with Disney and Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.
“This incredible result is proof that the fans’ anticipation to experience Dune: Part Three as it was meant to be, on the biggest, boldest screens possible, is at a fever pitch,” Warner Bros President of Global Distribution Jeff Goldstein said in a statement. “Once again, Denis Villeneuve has crafted an unmissable cinematic experience for audiences, whether they are fans of the first two films or discovering this world for the first time.”
Dune: Part Three continues Frank Herbert’s epic story based on his novel Dune Messiah. The cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Isaach De Bankolé and Charlotte Rampling, joined by Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson and Javier Bardem.
With packed theaters nearly a year before release and Villeneuve at the helm again, the strong early sales show fans remain committed to experiencing Dune the way it was intended — on film, not streaming. Hollywood observers say this kind of theatrical energy may mark a rare bright spot for traditional cinema in a post-pandemic industry still struggling to lure audiences back to theaters. It’s also a sure sign Disney will need to move from that same date for Avengers: Doomsday.
