Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.
For far too long, Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops has been nerfed cinematically, and that's being nice about it, seeing as there's an argument to be made that he was all but neutered by 20th Century Fox. The version seen in the X-Men franchise of yesteryear, portrayed by award-winning actor James Marsden in four X-Men films from 2000 through 2014, was a shell of the version fans had become accustomed to in Marvel Comics.
That is not a knock to Marsden though, proof being in how his reprisal of Cyclops for Avengers: Doomsday will finally see his rage and trademark optic blast fully unleashed, a terrifying thought for anyone within a half-mile radius of the concussive solar flare.
But while the world continues to wait for that glorious moment to arrive in December 2026, Marvel Comics is celebrating the cinematic power-up with one for everyone's comic book pull list with a new-look, unforgiving Cyclops — Cyclops #1 blasted its way into homes on Feb. 11, 2026.

Cyclops No Longer Gives a Damn About Optics (Literally and Figuratively Speaking)
Anyone doubting what's to come in Cyclops #1 need only heed the first two words from the press release: "CYCLOPS UNLEASHED!". It's complete and utter savage mode for Cyclops, and nothing less will be accepted by fans nowadays.
Written by Alex Paknadel with Roge Antonio, Fer Sifuentes and Vc Joe Caramagna assisting with the panels and Federico Vicentini linking with Marcio Menyz for the cover art, Cyclops #1 follows the story of Scott Summers, leader of the X-Men, somehow lost in the wilderness ... without his visor ... and that means every single time he opens his eyes, anything and anyone in front of him ceases to exist; and that will come in handy as he finds himself hunted by supervillain cyborg Donald Pierce and his army of half-men, half-robot killers (the Reavers).
This is Cyclops operating at a level of brutality usually reserved for Logan, but it's always existed within him, though never in blockbuster movie form, where his hidden savagery was often chilled to avoid overshadowing Wolverine's, or for whatever reason 20th Century Fox conjured up in a boardroom full of executives.
Rest assured, Cyclops #1 shows Scott Summers at his deadliest, his most lethal, his most ruthless, and reminds the universe of what the leader of the X-Men and mutantkind is capable of. And, soon, hopefully, Marvel Studios will allow the Russo Brothers and Avengers: Doomsday to follow suit. The good news is that, based upon trailers, they will — finally — let him cook, literally.
