Created by Gerry Conway and Barry Oksner, Vixen was supposed to be the first black woman to get a solo series. The issue was written in 1978, but never saw the light of day.
Instead, she first appeared in 1981 in the pages of Action Comics #521. It hit the stands on April 20.
