Henry Cavill has traded his Superman cape for a kilt as he steps into the lead role in Highlander. New images from the Scotland set show the actor in full 16th century warrior gear as filming gets underway at Eilean Donan Castle. Cavill appears with long hair similar to his look in The Witcher, riding into battle with a torch-lit army.
The reboot is directed by Chad Stahelski, known for John Wick. The story follows Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior who discovers he cannot die after falling in battle centuries ago. He lives in the modern world but is pulled back into conflict when a brutal rival known as the Kurgan returns.
Set footage shows large scale battle scenes, suggesting the film will lean heavily into action. Cavill is joined by Scottish actor Kevin McKidd from Grey’s Anatomy and WWE star Drew McIntyre, both seen in armor on the battlefield. Karen Gillan, known for Guardians of the Galaxy, also appears briefly in the background.

The cast brings together several major names. Cavill reunites with his Man of Steel co-star Russell Crowe, who will take on a mentor role similar to the one played by Sean Connery in the original film. Dave Bautista, known for Dune, will play the main villain. Additional cast members include Jeremy Irons from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Djimon Hounsou, Marisa Abela from Industry, and Max Zhang from Blades of the Guardians.
Amazon MGM Studios is backing the project, signaling a major investment in reviving the franchise. The original Highlander built a strong cult following, but reboots in recent years have struggled to gain traction. This new version will test whether legacy action franchises can still draw modern audiences in a crowded streaming market.
No release date has been announced. Production is still ongoing in Scotland.
