Two separate stories weave through issues #132-137, so each will get their own post. This post covers “The Replacement Thor,” which focuses on the titular star as he tries to raise his own father…

Yes, Zeus has been resurrected as a child and in order to hide and protect him, Zeus goes incognito as “Thor.” The real Thor has (once again) been exiled from Asgard, and the new King of Asgard, Balder the Brave, needs a Thor stand-in to negotiate with the Dark Elves.

It’s actually Malekith in disguise, not Balder, but that becomes a minor plot point. It does fit with the theme of these issues, which is people pretending to be other people. It’s a timely theme, given that the same thing is happening at the same time with Marvel’s other flagship characters: Norman Osborn is the new Iron Man, Bucky is the new Cap, General Ross is the new Hulk…
Back to this story: Being who he is, Hercules ends up accidentally marrying Alflyse, the Queen of the Dark Elves, and becomes king of their realm.

By the end of the story, the real Thor appears (dressed as Hercules) and Herc gives Thor a purple nurple…

…after which Thor kicks Herc in the nuts and then gives him an atomic wedgie.

Check out the sound effect. Excellent.
This leads to the annulment of their marriage, but the elven queen isn’t angry because apparently Hercules is incredible in bed.
ScreenshotZeus, meanwhile, learns from Asgardians about the real Thor.

He decides he likes him better than Hercules.

Oh, and lest I neglect to mention that the cover of issue #134 pays tribute to The Graduate…
As always, the tale is full of humor and warmth. Another home run for this creative team.
So many “funny” comics are anything but, yet Incredible Hercules not only manages to build important pieces for overall Earth 616 continuity, but ALSO is funny and charming and joyful.
