Marvel Comics is ready to remind its readers why Doctor Doom is the greatest supervillain in history. The publisher will release a special ten-issue series described as the character's most ambitious quest yet.
Written by Fantastic Four and One World Under Doom scribe Ryan North, the new maxi-series Doomquest will feature interior artwork by acclaimed Daredevil artist Francesco Mobili. Marvel has teased the run as a "standalone, evergreen story" making it the perfect opportunity for new and old fans alike to get reacquainted with Doctor Doom ahead of his triumphant Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Avengers: Doomsday later this year. A sneak peek of the new series will be available in Armageddon/X-Men #1 at this year's Comics Giveaway Day on May 2, and the first issue goes on sale May 27.
Marvel Reveals New Details Of Doctor Doom's Latest Conquest
Marvel's announcement of the new series included a special look at the first issue's cover art, with the main cover by acclaimed artist Alex Ross. The publisher also teased where Doctor Doom would be headed inside its pages. "Doctor Victor Von Doom is a great scientist, an unparalleled sorcerer and the ruler of his own nation," the solicit reads. "He is, by any measure, a great man. And yet Doom wants more. And when Reed Richards – Mister Fantastic, his greatest enemy and eternal rival – is showcased at a prestigious international event to which Doom wasn’t even invited, Doom is outraged."
Mister Fantastic remains a pillar of hope in the Marvel Universe, and the series will see him reveal an exciting idea — one that Doom is eager to capitalize on. "Reed shares his plan for his eventual retirement project: the total optimization of history. He intends to go back in time, to all the eras humanity wasted on war and conflict, and fix them, saving trillions of lives and ensuring humanity can achieve its greatest and final glory."
The series continues to see Doctor Doom once again upstaging The Fantastic Four hero in true Doom fashion, but facing some unexpected roadblocks across the galaxy. "The idea of Reed rewriting history in his own image is, of course, antithetical to Doom, and so he decides to do it before Reed does. But when The Fantastic Four intervene, Doom finds himself in a battle he never intended – across all of time and space!"
Doomquest Writer Returns to Doctor Doom After Marvel's One World Under Doom Event
Image via Marvel ComicsFor Marvel fans, Doomquest is the perfect jumping-on point for Doctor Doom's character, and those who have read Doom's recent comics exploits will be familiar with the book's writer. Ryan North returns to push Doom into a new direction after launching Marvel's epic One World Under Doom event that spanned multiple titles in 2025. "I thought we'd left Doom in a really interesting place with the events of One World Under Doom, and I was looking forward to seeing what others do with him now - and I still am," North shared.
"But when the chance came up to do an evergreen Doom story — meaning one set not in the immediate present but instead in the not-too-distant past, unshackled from his current status quo - it was really alluring, especially when I was told I could go as big and as crazy as I wanted," he continued. "In short, this is the fun one: Doom at his absolute Doomiest as he careens his way through a quest through time, rewriting history in his image - all to ennoble and exalt his beloved Latveria. It's fun, it's bombastic, and I can promise some absolute banger Doom moments (and speeches!) in it."
Series artist Francesco Mobili also gushed about the series and its potential. "Doctor Doom is one of the greatest villains in comic book history, and Ryan North is one of the most brilliant writers we have in the industry right now. This mix makes it super fun to draw, page by page, and I'm loving everything about Ryan's writing here. I can't ask for more, and I can't wait for you to see what we're cooking up!"
Doomquest #1 goes on sale May 27, 2026.
