Marvel Eyes Sydney Sweeney for Emma Frost in X-Men Reboot

Marvel Studios is reportedly eyeing The Housemaid and Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney for the role of Emma Frost in its upcoming X-Men reboot, according to online insider @MyTimeToShineH. The casting rumor arrives at a time when Marvel is working to rebuild the X-Men franchise under a new creative direction following years of dormancy.

Sweeney, 28, earned attention for her performance in Madame Web, even as the film itself struggled to connect with audiences. Since then, her name has circulated through fan discussions linking her to both Marvel and DC projects, with frequent mentions of her as Power Girl or Black Cat. Now, speculation about her involvement with X-Men is gaining traction across social media and entertainment outlets.

Comic fans know Emma Frost as one of Marvel’s most complex characters. Introduced as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, Frost evolved from villain to antihero and finally to a leading member of the X-Men. In Grant Morrison’s New X-Men storyline, it was revealed that her famous British accent was self-crafted as part of her elaborate persona. Her arc has included mentorship of young mutants, leadership at the Massachusetts Academy, and a controversial affair with Cyclops after Jean Grey’s death.

January Jones portrayed Frost in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, though her version was largely confined to supporting material. Sweeney, critics note, seems more suited to carry the character through Marvel’s planned long-term development, as the studio continues integrating mutant storylines into its broader cinematic universe.

The project, directed by Jake Schreier, features a script by Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo. Schreier’s reboot remains in the writing stage, but sources recently hinted that Odessa A’Zion may be in consideration to play Rogue, with Peter Claffey eyed for Beast. With casting seemingly fluid, insiders expect Marvel to finalize the ensemble in the coming months.

Marvel previously saw similar speculation around The Fantastic Four: First Steps, when early rumors of casting failed to match the studio’s final line-up. Industry watchers view the X-Men reboot as another high-stakes roll for Marvel to restore enthusiasm after several uneven film releases.

Speaking about his involvement, Sung Jin explained that working on X-Men fulfills a childhood dream. “It’s something I grew up with,” he said. “My father and I used to watch the cartoon every Saturday morning. So when Marvel came calling, it felt almost personal.” He added that he always favored characters like Gambit and Jubilee rather than Wolverine or Cyclops, hinting that side characters may get stronger attention in the new script.

X-Men does not yet have a confirmed release date, though production is expected to start later this year with a target debut in 2028. Details remain sparse, but early buzz suggests Marvel sees this reboot as a major reset for the franchise’s cultural image and box-office credibility.
