Growing up in rural Iowa as a reluctant reader, it all changed when he started reading the original Fantastic Four by Lee/Kirby. Now Austin can't stop reading. He has written about comics for Comic Book Yeti and he has also written tons of indie comics, best known for Big Guns Stupid Rednecks.
Wolverine's healing factor has easily been the character's most useful power in Marvel Comics. In Wolverine #21, it is revealed that he no longer has his healing abilities.
Wolverine #21 is written by Saladin Ahmed (Black Bolt) with art by Julius Ohta (Punisher: Red Band, Hellverine). The loss of his healing factor is in addition to the loss of his claws. This all comes after Wolverine and Nightcrawler battled the Absorbing Man and his spouse.
The storyline continues with Wolverine #22. Its official solicitation gives us more information on what is to come: "SNAPT! WOLVERINE has been beaten down to the bone — literally! His adamantium claws SHATTERED, their bones SNAPPED down to nubs, this is Wolverine at his most brutalized, most beat-up... but when an animal is backed into a corner, they can be at their most dangerous! Wolverine must fight his way through a gauntlet of enemies for his very survival! Villainous plots turn, and you don't want to miss the ultimate trial...for even if Wolverine can reach his enemies, will he remain a MUTANT?"
How Long Can Logan Survive Without a Healing Factor?
Image via Marvel ComicsWith the loss of his healing factor, Wolverine is at great risk. Wolverine has grown to count on it over the years. His fighting style is extremely reckless, and his healing factor has been the only thing allowing him to fight so brutally.
While Logan will most likely survive, the question remains: how far will he go to get his powers back? Most likely, it will be too dangerous for him to be useful right now. What will Nightcrawler have to do to get Wolverine his powers back? Wolverine's relationship with Nightcrawler has become the only thing that could save his life.
The unlikely duo of Nightcrawler and Wolverine has been paired together many times. While they have both been members of the X-Men at the same time, they have ventured off together on paired quests. Nightcrawler is often portrayed as a man of great religious faith, while Logan remains extremely skeptical due to the troubled life and trauma he has gone through.
Though Wolverine could actually die. This would be a shocking turn of events, sure to garner a strong public reaction. Wolverine has had to fight his way through hell before, but maybe Marvel is giving the character a rest before a big comeback.
This is not the first time Wolverine has lost his healing factor. In the 1993 Fatal Attractions storyline, Magneto used his powers to rip out all the antimonium on Wolverine's skeleton. Logan's healing factor was so overwhelmed it disappeared for months. Another time he lost his healing abilities was in 2014 when Wolverine contracted the micro-verse virus. This virus was able to switch off his healing factor for a short time. He also lost his healing factor in the 2017 movie Logan.
