As per the official solicit synopsis for Ultimate Endgame #1 from Marvel Comics, "Two (thousand) years have passed in the Ultimate Universe, but inside the City, the Maker has had thousands of years to prepare for his return! With the barrier around the City finally gone, heroes all across the Ultimate Universe must mobilize to defeat the Maker before it's game over. For everyone. Meanwhile, the rest of the world wages World War III..."
The man who would become the Maker was first introduced in the pages of 2004's Ultimate Fantastic Four #1 (by Brian Michael Bendis, Mark Millar, and Adam Kubert) as none other than the Reed Richards of the original Ultimate Universe. For years, this Reed Richards stood as one of the greatest heroes his world had to offer, all the way up until he became one of the most dreaded villains the Multiverse has ever known.
After seeing his world rended asunder by Magneto, being rejected by his beloved Sue Storm, and learning that his world was fated for a tragic end courtesy of Kang, the Reed of Earth-1610 began forming plans to ensure his own survival at the very least. Taking on a new moniker, the Maker eventually made his way to the primary Marvel Universe of the reality of Earth-616, where he cemented his place as a Multiversal threat.
Following numerous major storylines and a brazen series of heists, the Maker took it upon himself to seek out a new home in the form of a world he could reshape roughly in his own image. This led to his discovery of Earth-6160, the current Ultimate Universe, where he could use his incredible intellect and knowledge of various heroes and villains to establish near-total dominance over the entire planet.
Now, after two years of seeing heroes ranging from Tony Stark to Peter Parker to T'Challa finally step into the roles they were always meant to play, the Ultimate Universe is quickly approaching its ultimate finale. The final issues of Ultimate Wolverine and The Ultimates are both currently slated to arrive in stores in April, and will mark the last chapters in the overarching Ultimate Universe saga as it stands today.
