Dark Horse Comics is about to explore the origins of the Masters of the Universe — And their worst enemies.
Per a press release from Dark Horse Comics, the fan-favorite indie publisher is set to unveil the origins of the greatest heroes and most horrid villains to ever grace Eternia in a brand-new comic book series. Set to kick off in August, Masters of the Universe: Genesis will chart the beginnings of some of the most iconic characters of all time, beginning with the franchise's most instantly recognizable villain.
The first three-issue arc of Masters of the Universe: Genesis will offer readers a glimpse into Skeletor's rise as Eternia's deadliest threat. The arc is written by Rich Douek with illustrations by Gavin Smith, colors by Fabi Marques, and letters by AndWorld Design. Readers can check out the main cover for Masters of the Universe: Genesis #1 by Mark Buckingham down below, as well as the issue's variant cover art by Lee Bermejo.

The official solicit synopsis for Masters of the Universe: Genesis #1 from Dark Horse Comics reads, "Discover the origins of your favorite heroes and villains! In issue #1, we meet Skeletor — a power-hungry demon-mage determined to seize control of Castle Grayskull, conquer Eternia, and become Master of the Universe!"
Although readers have no real idea of what will come in the pages of Masters of the Universe: Genesis after the initial three-issue Skeletor run, Dark Horse Comics has promised that future stories will be helmed by some truly incredible creative teams. Among the future Masters of the Universe: Genesis scribes mentioned are Cavan Scott, Nick Roche, John Harris Dunning, Giovanna La Pietra, and Tiffany Smith.
Masters of the Universe Is Set To Be A Summer Blockbuster

Alongside Galitzine, the upcoming Masters of the Universe film stars Idris Elba as Duncan, better known as Man-At-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, and Alison Brie as Professor Evelyn Powers, a.k.a. Evil-Lyn. Audiences got their best look yet at many of these characters in March with the release of the then-latest trailer for Masters of the Universe.
Shortly after the release of the upcoming feature film, fans can continue their next journey through Eternia with the release of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate #1, the first comic book tie-in to the movie. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate #1 is written by Tim Sheridan with art by Will Sliney and colors by Israel Silva, and will see the titular hero "embark upon a perilous journey through the Mystic Mountains and seek aid from the storied inhabitants of the realm of Avion."
