MS MARVEL #18-20 (2007)

3 days ago 6

Machine Man (yay!) and Sleepwalker (boo!) join Ms. Marvel’s initiative team and help rescue Araña who has been (sigh) kidnapped by Puppet Master.  He’s also got a few other D-list female heroes in his clutches, including Tigra, which leads to a Tigra-vs-Ms.-Marvel fight.

This is silly, of course.  There are at least a dozen ways Carol could immobilize Tigra without either of them getting a scratch.  And she does.  But at soon as she knocks out Tigra (it’s a ONE PAGE fight but featured on the cover), Silverclaw attacks her.

But it turns out Tigra DID scratch her, and she had some poison on her claws so now Puppet Master has Carol, too.

It turns out that Puppet Master is selling the women to South American militia leaders.  The big finale is pretty underwhelming, as they shake off his spell and get free.

Meanwhile, there’s more on the ongoing “what’s wrong with Ms. Marvel” mystery.  Beast gives her a scan after she admits to hearing voices in her head.  Hank figures out that she’s suddenly developed a healing factor and also, strangely has a small object implanted in her that is receiving a distress call from outer space.

In the last few pages, we see (another) helicarrier destroyed and the alien Cru attacks Carol.

Also, she’s dating Wonder Man.

This series continues to be solid, but not great.  It’s a light read with tons of action and many characters you can’t see anywhere else.  That by itself is special.  It also stands in start contrast to where Marvel was a decade ago, when just about every comic every month had to feature one of four characters (Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Wolverine or Punisher).
