Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters in 2026, with Tom Holland reprising his titular role as the web-slinging Peter Parker. Sadie Sink, known for playing Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, is set to star alongside Holland in the newest Marvel Studios movie.

In an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Sink talked about how she landed the still-unknown role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. She also confirmed that a fan theory regarding how she got cast in the movie turned out to be completely accurate.

As for who Sink will be playing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, that information is still heavily guarded. “It’s torture. There’s so much speculation,” Sink said of fan theories. “I feel like there’s a new character every week. I tell people. The people I know,” she said of the character she will be portraying in the Spider-Man flick.

As for how she learned who she would be playing, she said, “I found out through online theories. Before I got cast, there was speculation online that said, ‘Sadie Sink is gonna be in the new Spider-Man,’ she said. “I was like, ‘I am?’ Sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it. Those theories, there’s sometimes some truth to [them],” Sink concluded.

Fan theories regarding Sink’s character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day have been abundant online. CBR recently compiled a list of several Marvel characters Sink could be playing in the upcoming movie. One of the characters fans think Sink could be playing is Spider-Man’s first love, Gwen Stacy, since there’s already an MJ in the MCU.

There are several other characters Sink is rumored to be playing, including Jean Grey, Angelica Jones/Firestarter, Shathra, Rachel Cole-Alves, Scream the Symbiote, or Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, among others.

According to ComicBookMovie, a recently linked Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer may have shed some new light on who Sink will be playing in the film.

In the leaked trailer, Sink’s character is reportedly heard saying, “You're a mess, Spider-Man. Don't get in my way. Otherwise, it won't just be your friends who don't remember who Peter Parker is.”

Sink’s line clues audiences into what seems to be the fact that her character knows the true identity of Peter Parker, even after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The trailer has fans speculating that Sink’s Spider-Man character could be Shathra. Shathra is an ancient Wasp-Goddess hailing from the Loomworld of Earth-001.

In November 2025, Sink kept her lips sealed regarding the character she would be portraying in the movie. At the premiere of Stranger Things Season 5, when asked about Spider-Man, Sink told Entertainment Tonight, “I thought this was the Stranger Things premiere. I wasn't prepared.” When further asked to give just one word to describe her Spider-Man character, Sink said, “Mmm, no.”

In addition to Sink and Holland, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Tramell Tillman, Jacob Batalon, Marvin Jones III, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Michael Mando.Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit movie theaters on July 31, 2026.
