Jordan Iacobucci has been an avid reader and movie fan since childhood. Jordan is known among his friends as the Marvel and Star Wars nerd, and even wrote a thirty-page college dissertation about Spider-Man! He has been a staff writer at both Screen Rant and CBR, where he enjoys sharing his love for pop culture with the world.

Hailee Steinfeld is an icon of the superhero movie genre, portraying multiple iconic comic book characters in her still-young Hollywood career. Now, her superhero movie debut, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is a sudden streaming success seven years after it first premiered.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a streaming sensation once again as audiences eagerly await the conclusion of the acclaimed animated trilogy. According to data from FlixPatrol, the 2018 superhero film is currently No. 8 on Netflix's most-streamed films in the United States. This places it just behind massive fan-favorites like KPop: Demon Hunters and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, which hold the seventh and third slots, respectively. The good news only continues for Into the Spider-Verse. On Netflix's "Kids Chart," the beloved superhero film sits in second place, suggesting that its demographics may skew younger.

Into the Spider-Verse is the first installment of Sony's acclaimed Spider-Verse trilogy. The 2018 film features the big-screen debut of Miles Morales, who takes over the mantle of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's death. Plunged into a multiverse of Spider-People, Miles encounters numerous memorable characters, including Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Gwen, a Gwen Stacy variant who is her universe's main superhero.

The hit animated superhero movie became an instant fan-favorite, going on to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, beating out other massive films, including Incredibles 2 and Isle of Dogs. The film was followed up with a sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, which was met with similar critical acclaim (though it lost the Best Animated Feature Award to The Boy and the Heron). The third and final entry of the Spider-Verse trilogy, entitled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has been delayed multiple times but is currently set to hit theaters on June 18, 2027.

After starring in Into the Spider-Verse, Hailee Steinfeld made her MCU debut as Kate Bishop in the 2021 Disney+ series Hawkeye. The series sets her up as the successor to Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton/Hawkeye and a potential member of the new superhero team, the Young Avengers. Steinfeld later made a cameo in The Marvels and is expected to make her next appearance in a Disney+ Young Avengers miniseries.

What to Expect From Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

After the amazing success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse, the pressure is on for Beyond the Spider-Verse to bring the trilogy to a satisfying conclusion. Expectations are exceedingly high already, especially after the second film's massive cliffhanger ending that promises an epic finale. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's numerous delays have only raised the stakes for the highly anticipated film, as audiences grow increasingly anxious to see how the saga will end.

If Spider-Verse: Beyond the Spider-Verse manages to live up to its two predecessors, the Spider-Verse franchise will go down in history as one of the best superhero movie trilogies of all time—perhaps even one of the best trilogies in movie history. Known for its groundbreaking animation, compelling stories, and extreme attention to detail, the Spider-Verse franchise has revolutionized the animated film industry and recategorized how superhero films are seen by the general public. Naturally, the world is expecting big things from Beyond the Spider-Verse when it finally hits theaters in 2027.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will most likely bring Miles Morales's story to an end, completing his three-movie origin story as he finally settles into the role of Spider-Man. This will involve a Civil War of sorts between the members of the Spider-Society, as Miles and his friends come to blows with Miguel O'Hara (Oscar Isaac) and his followers over how to properly defend the multiverse. The threat of the Spot (Jason Schwartzman) remains a crucial plot point as well, as he threatens the lives of Miles's family—and perhaps the entire multiverse.

While Spider-Verse: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be the last installment of the trilogy, Sony is also planning multiple spinoff projects that will further flesh out the franchise. A live-action Spider-Noir series is in the works at Amazon Prime Video, with Nicolas Cage playing a variant of Ben Reilly. The series will premiere on Prime Video sometime in 2026. There are also potential spinoff movies centered around other Spider-Verse characters, including Hailee Steinfeld's Spider-Gwen, Spider-Punk, and Spider-Woman.

Many rumors suggest Miles Morales could make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sometime in the near future. Avengers: Secret Wars seems like a perfect place to introduce the character, especially given his importance in the comic book storyline of the same name. While Kevin Feige and other Marvel executives deny any ongoing plans to introduce Miles Morales to the MCU, it is only a matter of time before the character shows up in the franchise. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse could be the place to finally set up the next chapter of his story.

Seven years after its inception, the Spider-Verse franchise remains as popular as ever. As audiences eagerly anticipate the trilogy's conclusion, Into the Spider-Verse establishes itself as a perennial fan favorite.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is available to stream on Netflix.
