Spinal Tap’s Final Finale Delayed Following Rob Reiner’s Murder

A final chapter in Rob Reiner’s film career has been postponed after the director was killed earlier this month. The project in question is Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, described as the last installment in the Spinal Tap franchise. A sequel to Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the film was planned as a concert performance featuring the film’s returning cast.

Industry sources said no release date had been set, though an IMAX release had been considered for 2026. In light of Reiner’s death, the decision to move forward with the film has been paused while those closest to Reiner and his family determine the best path ahead, according to Variety.

The longtime creative team behind Spinal Tap returns for the concert film, including Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer. The project was also expected to include guest appearances by Shania Twain, Eric Clapton, and Josh Groban. The Spinal Tap II: The End Continues received mixed reviews but held an overall positive reception, with a 66 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Earlier reports from Breitbart News cited the death of Rob Reiner, 78, known for directing and acting in numerous films such as Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally. Reiner and his wife, Michele, were found deceased at their Brentwood home with injuries described as knife wounds; subsequent reports indicated that both throats had been slit.

Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail. People close to the family indicated that Nick Reiner had a history of drug use and mental health challenges and was involved in a heated argument with his parents at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party a day before the deaths.
