As I noted in our preview for the penultimate issue of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, this series is all about the fallacy of Kylo Ren's obsession with his grandfather, Darth Vader. Kylo Ren has been searching for himself in the legacy of Vader, but obviously, you can't get too caught up in the shadow of another person, and Kylo Ren realized that last issue when he was almost horrifically burned alive by one of Vader's servants, Vaneé, who wanted to put Kylo Ren through what Anakin Skywalker had gone through to become Vader.
Kylo Ren instead escaped, and insisted that he was enough as it was, and killed Vaneé (who, of course, claimed that that was all he wanted Kylo to understand in the first place). At the end of the last issue, he opened Darth Vader's mysterious vault (which not even Vaneé had ever seen before), and that leads us to this CBR exclusive preview of the FINAL issue of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader by writer Charles Soule and artist Luke Ross.

KYLO REN REACHES THE DARKEST DEPTHS OF HIS JOURNEY!
- KYLO REN battles his way through the darkest corridors of VADER’S CASTLE!
- Visions of VADER bring Kylo to his knees!
- Will the young tyrant be able to move beyond the shadow of his grandfather? Or will he be imprisoned within the LEGACY OF VADER?
In the preview pages, we continue from the cliffhanger of the last issue, as Kylo Ren enters Vader's mysterious vault in his private castle. Instantly, he is taken to a strange new reality.
Darth Vader then appears to him, and explains that this world is cut off from the outside world, and so the only thing that you bring with you is your own thoughts. So, in other words, it seems like this vault is effectively a hardcore deprivation tank, as Kylo is forced to confront his own thoughts and fears, and as we have seen with Kylo Ren, those are often the most dangerous thing that he has going on in his world.
He tries to follow his grandfather, but obviously, this isn't the real world, so he is unable to do so. He gets angry, and insists that he was promised power from this vault. Vader, of course, counters that a promise of power is meaningless, as no one just GIVES away power, or, in the alternative, anyone who is willing to give you power has no power to actually give you.
You can only TAKE power, and that is what Kylo Ren is going to have to deal with in this strange reality, where it is almost certainly a case of him being at war with his own thoughts. Of course, we will have to see more in the issue next week to find out for sure, so be sure to pick up a copy of Legacy of Vader #12 next week!
