Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.
Both Superman and Spider-Man are, as usual, dominating headlines for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, respectively, be it cinematically with James Gunn's and David Corenswet's franchise, Tom Holland's upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day and/or the conclusion to Sony's iconic animated trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. This time, however, it's because they've joined forces for the first time in a half century.
In what can only be viewed as a cosmic event in the world of comic books, Superman/Spider-Man #1 combines the efforts of both the Boy in Blue and everyone's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man into a one-shot crossover set to arrive in March 2026.
And with Marvel having already ignited the internet with their side of the reveal — a slew of covers and variants that set the tone for Brad Meltzer and his group of writers and artists — it's time for DC Comics to unleash theirs, and they most certainly have.
Courtesy of DC ComicsHere's how DC is describing their side of Superman/Spider-Man #1: "DC's one-shot is headlined by the lead story Truth, Justice, and Great Responsibility from Mark Waid and Jorge Jiménez, in which intrepid newshounds Clark Kent and Peter Parker uncover a conspiracy that pulls Superman and Spider-Man into a universe-spanning threat involving Brainiac and Doctor Octopus."
Not to be outdone by their Marvel compatriots, DC has also commissioned artist Jorge Jiménez to create a "new pin-up paying homage to Ross Andru's iconic" drawing from Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man, that crossover having changed everything for Marvel and DC when it arrived in 1976, and that [re]creation will "appear as an interior page" of Superman/Spider-Man #1.
DC Won't Be Outdone by Marvel in Superman/Spider-Man #1
It has indeed been 50 years since Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man blessed the world of comic books with its presence, and there's nothing held back in celebrating that work. For DC, this means helping Marvel load up Superman/Spider-Man #1 with a slew of incomparable and acclaimed writers and artists from both universes to leave no stone unturned in ensuring an unforgettable read that is worthy of the crossover.
DC's contributions, via their latest press release, include "bonus tales by Tom King and Jim Lee; Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber, Sean Murphy, Gail Simone and Belén Ortega; Christopher Priest, Daniel Sampere, Greg Rucka, Nicola Scott; Jeff Lemire and Rafa Sandoval; and more." That "more" includes — you may want to brace yourself for this list, by the way — Tomeu Morey, Scott Williams, Alex Sinclair, Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, Rafael Albuquerque, Dave Johnson; David Nakayama, Gabriele Dell’Otto, Mikel Janín, David Talaski and Clayton Crain; and that's not all.
Also, consider the fact creators such as Simone are also contributing to Superman/Spider-Man #1 while putting the finishing touches on other potentially legendary works as well, that are set to debut in 2026.
Combine all of this with what Brad Meltzer has cooking and, well, the only word left to describe Superman/Spider-:Man #1 is ... wow ... or maybe two specific words, at most: holy s&^t.
"I've been waiting fifty years to write this book," Meltzer said. "Superman and Spider-Man have affected me more than most real people. I carry them with me everywhere — and our story cuts to the core of what it means to be a good person. I'm honored that Nick Lowe and everyone at Marvel even asked. Just wait until you see Pepe’s work. Get your capes and web-shooters ready."
