The following contains major spoilers for Absolute Evil #1, on sale now from DC Comics.

The Absolute Universe's Justice League is even more twisted than readers imagined, and not because of any particularly heroic members of the team.

After a trip into the halls where the world's greatest villains have assembled to address their shared problems in the pages of Absolute Evil #1 (by Al Ewing, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stefano Nesi, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Tom Napolitano) readers watch on as the unflinching Joker of the Absolute Universe reveals what could be the greatest scientific discovery of all time - the Omega Particle. With the discovery of this previously unseen particle, the very fabric of the Absolute Universe can finally be examined and quantified, as can Darkseid's influence over it. More importantly, it confirms the Joker's suspicions that their entire reality has its own decidedly dour moral compass. And, if any of them want any chance of keeping it pointed in the right direction despite the vigilantes who have begun rising against them, they are going to need to form a Justice League of their own to do just that.

Formerly known as the Elseworld, an unreachable corner of the Multiverse that appeared to still be in its infancy, the Absolute Universe, as it stands today, began taking shape in 2024's DC All In Special #1. Over the course of the issue, readers followed along as Darkseid, who had forcefully bonded to the Spectre, waged a one-man war against the then newly formed Justice League Unlimited. During Darkseid's attack on the JLU's Watchtower, a mystically empowered Superman seemingly obliterated his old foe, bringing an immediate end to the battle while ushering in the evolution of the Absolute Universe by unwittingly paving the way for Darkseid's consciousness to bond to the very fabric of its reality.

In the time since then, the Absolute Universe has introduced brutalist versions of iconic heroes such as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, as well as mind-bending variants of the likes of the Martian Manhunter. The Absolute Universe has also proven itself to be replete with villains who effectively rule the world, including Hector Hammond, Ra's al Ghul, Veronica Cale, Elenore Thawne, and the Joker, having come together in the pages of Absolute Evil to address the heroes who have cropped up over the past year. To make matters worse, the villains at the heart of Absolute Evil are just a few of the dozens that call the Absolute Universe their home, all of whom are only gaining prominence over their heroic adversaries.

The official solicit synopsis for Absolute Evil #1 from DC Comics reads, "Without heroes... without protection... without restraint... there is only Absolute Evil... The emergence of superheroes has caught the attention of the world... and it's certainly caught the attention of the people who run it. Ra’s al Ghul, Veronica Cale, Elenore Thawne, Hector Hammond, and the mysterious Joker have worked at cross-purposes until now, but this growing threat requires new ways of thinking... and new partnerships. An insidious betrayal from within their ranks is imminent, and if they don't take action, they'll lose control of a planet that was built to be their playground!"

Absolute Evil #1 is on sale now from DC Comics.

The Justice League, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter, pose together on the Justice League of America Vol. 1 comic cover.
