Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is closing out 2025 with a major win ahead of its upcoming threequel.
Per FlixPatrol, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is set to end 2025 from the number three spot on the list of the top ten films currently available for streaming on Netflix in the United States. As of the time of writing, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sits just behind Wrath of Man and The Girl Who Got Away in the number one and two spots.
Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman from a screenplay the latter co-wrote alongside Phil Lord, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse arrived in theaters in 2018 to the delight of fans everywhere. The film marked the cinematic debut of none other than Miles Morales, as voiced by fan-favorite Shameik Moore, in an adventure that draws together numerous heroes from across the Multiverse.
Alongside Miles Morales, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse features a variant of Peter Parker (Peter B. Parker, more specifically) voiced by Jake Johnson, Aaron Davis, aka the Prowler, voiced by Mahershala Ali, and Miles' father Jefferson Davis, voiced by Brian Tyree Henry. Hailee Steinfeld, John Mulaney, Kimiko Glenn, and Nicolas Cage also lend their voices to the film as Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, Peni Parker aka SP//dr, and Spider-Man Noir.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a massive hit upon its release, grossing more than $394 million at the global box office against a budget of $90 million. The film is also a critical darling, currently boasting a near-perfect 97% "Certified Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across nearly 400 verified critical reviews. For comparison, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse holds a 93% "Popcornmeter" score, as averaged across more than 25,000 verified user-submitted reviews.
The film was followed in 2023 by Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which brought back the first film's core cast for another Multiverse-spanning adventure, this time largely set in motion by the emergence of the villainous Johnathon Ohnn, aka the Spot (voiced by Jason Schwartzman). Yet again, the film proved to be a major success, grossing more than $690 million in theaters against a $150 million budget and earning a whole host of major industry award nominations (and 67) wins alongside rave reviews.
What's Next for the Spider-Verse on the Silver Screen?
Image via Sony Pictures ReleasingThe trilogy of animated Spider-Verse films is currently slated to come to a close in 2027 with the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The upcoming threequel will pick up in the immediate aftermath of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and will find Miles Morales trapped in the twisted world of Earth-42, where the world's villains have largely taken control due to the absence of any real heroes.
To top things off, fans can look forward to multiple Spider-Verse spinoffs in the years to come, including a Spider-Noir series led by none other than returning star Nicholas Cage. In early December, it was reported that Daniel Kaluuya, who voices the fan-favorite Hobie Brown, aka Spider-Punk, may be looking to take the lead in his own spinoff sometime in the near future.
"We're in our process," Kaluuya stated at the time. "It's exciting to be writing something in this space. Those Spider-Verse films, they speak to me. I was so inspired by them. I think the filmmakers and the animators are some of the best storytellers in the game. So, I want to put myself in environments where I can grow and learn what they know."
