The following contains major spoilers for The Ultimates #19, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

One of the greatest heroes of all time has just been reimagined as an absolute terror in the Ultimate Universe.

After watching her fellow heroes face off against hordes of enemies in the pages of The Ultimates #19 (by Deniz Camp, Juan Frigeri, Federico Blee, Edgar Delgado, and VC's Travis Lanham), Janet Van Dyne finds herself slumped down before Nick Fury, the man with whom she has been working in secret. As it turns out, however, Janet didn't just betray her fellow Ultimates for the Maker's sake, but at the behest of the Vision, and she is scarier than anything the Ultimate Universe has seen so far.

The official solicit synopsis for The Ultimates #19 from Marvel Comics reads, "STUNG BY THE WASP! It's the Ultimate Betrayal! Wasp has been a double agent for the Maker's Council in the name of protecting her family... but now, with the Maker emerging, her treachery must be answered for!"

Introduced alongside her husband, Henry Pym, in The Ultimates #1 in 2024, the Janet Van Dyne of the Ultimate Universe would have gone on to lead a life not unlike that of her primary counterpart, if only it hadn't been for the Maker. Fortunately, Janet and Henry were given the chance to become the heroes they were always meant to be, thanks to Tony Stark and his Ultimates program.

Of course, Janet was always more worried about her own life and that of her husband than she was freeing the world from the Maker's grasp. Uncertain of what the future might hold, Janet formed a partnership with Nick Fury to act as a double agent against the Ultimates. At least, that was how things appeared right up until the Ultimate Vision showed up to add another layer to Janet's story.

Currently, the entire Ultimate line of titles is quickly approaching its end, with the final issues of its overarching story set to arrive in April. Head of Marvel Comics and Franchise Dan Buckley previously noted of the line in its entirety, "You'll be able to take this journey—the beginning, middle, and end—and digest it for years to come and pass it on to others."
