This review contains spoilers for The Twilight Zone #5, on sale next week from IDW Publishing
IDW Publishing's new The Twilight Zone has been a major success, both critically (at CBR, we have raved about the series), and commercially, as next week's fifth issue was originally going to be the end of the miniseries, but instead, IDW has announced tthat it will continue at least five more issues (with star creators like Nicole Goux, Tony Fleecs & Andy Price, Gabriel Hardman, Juni Ba, Charles & Rosemary Soule, and more).
Now, in a CBR exclusive preview of next week's The Twilight Zone #5, see a first look at the entry from Eisner Award-winning writer/artist, Francesco Francavila, working with co-writer L. Marlow Francavilla and letterer/designer Sandy Tanaka, telling a throwback story about horrific terror from outer space, and perhaps an even more terrifying response from the government.

This all-new Twilight Zone anthology series comes to a close with its final standalone issue [EDITED TO ADD: Obviously, this was the solicitation before they announced that this was NOT the end - BC[! Our fresh tale resonates with the iconic original television show that’s captivated audiences for over 60 years. And like the show, this story will be revealed in terrifying black and white!
This issue: Imagine, if you will, a world where the urgency of science meets the obstinance of humanity. Submitted for your approval, the tale of a brilliant scientist who finds herself on the brink of a monumental discovery. A meteor emitting cryptic audio waves has crashed into the ocean and plummeted into its depths. Only she has the skill to decode its signals. But in the Twilight Zone, even the most crucial warnings can be drowned out by the cacophony of ignorance.
Francesco and L. Marlow Francavilla (The Black Beetle, The Black Coat, Detective Comics) are our guides for this latest expedition into the Twilight Zone. See you on the other side, brave readers…
In the preview pages, we meet Dr. Emily Sorensen, a brilliant scientist in the field of acoustics. She is recruited by the government after a mysterious meteorite landed on Earth deep in the ocean. The meteorite is giving off mysterious sounds. She joins a military mission (with some military guys who don't want her on the mission) and they head off to investigate the meteorite in the ocean.
However, we can see that the commander in charge of the mission has been told that he has an alternate mission if things go wrong. He has to eliminate the meteorite. This is all nice and spooky, and a throwback to the classic 1950s monster movies.
To see what happens next, you'll have to pick up a copy of The Twilight Zone #5 next week!
